When you eat it do you eat it properly? Or...β¦β¦. do you sit there for ten minutes and cut out each individual one?

Evidently, you have a regimen for eating grapefruit which you consider to be proper. As you haven't posted "the rules," I can only hope that I function within the perimeters of acceptance. -- I eat grapefruit at room temperature. I don't think that any fruit, chilled in the fridge, allows for full flavor. -- I eat it "plain," without any sprinkle of sugar, honey, salt, etc.. -- Generally, I cut it in half, and use a teaspoon to extract the segments, and the residual juices (I do not have grapefruit spoons. I don't have it often enough to warrant the investment.) -- Occasionally, I peel it, as I would an orange, and eat each segment as "finger food."

Same way I eat an orange. Cut in 4 lengthwise, then use my teeth to pull out each quarter from the peel.

Can't eat anything grapefruit - not fruit, not juice (love Ruby red), not Fresca. Not good for diabetics.

I used to eat it routinely years ago, but that was because I could always find good, juicy (i.e., not dry on the inside) grapefruit. The Ruby Red or Indian River grapefruit were my favorites. But then some years later, I kept getting ones that were partially dried out inside (some of them even a lot MORE than partially dried). I got to the point where I felt I was throwing money down the drain, so I stopped buying them.
My preferred technique to eat them was to peel them and separate each wedge like I do an orange. I recall I would take a sharp serrated knife and cut out the center portion if it had signs of a seed in it, but other than that, I never really used any implement to eat them with.

I just cut it in half. Then use a knife to separate the inside from the peel. Then eat the whole inside, except seeds.

I can no longer eat grapefruit either but when I ate it when I was younger, I would just peel it like an orange and eat each slice one at a time. When I was a kid, my mother would cut the grapefruit in half and pour sugar all over it and we would dig it out with a pointy spoon. (It seemed like in the 1950's mothers would pour sugar all over everything to get kids to eat but there were very few fat kids, I guess we played so hard, we really burned the calories)

I still remember the sugar bowl at the breakfast table: we'd take spoonfuls of sugar and put them on our cold cereal. For hot cereal, like oatmeal, we'd add brown sugar. (We weren't fat, either... 'course, dad & mom always had us doing chores, and we walked to and from school, etc. Oh, and no computers, either, so we didn't spend hours and hours sitting behind computers or other tech gadgets.)

I will eat one, when I feel the urge to dissolve the calcium from my teeth.
