Huh, I learned something new today; good practical explanation of the term. Nice to know, though I doubt I will use it myself. What made the explanation clear was the reference to homeopathy.

Conservatism creates terms like "woke" and "sjw" in an attempt to mock Reality based people, especially the progressive minded who support equal civil rights and opportunities for everyone on the diversity spectrum. But instead, this kind of attempted "humor" only serves to expose conservatism as a political philosophy that opposes equal rights and opportunities that the "right" would prefer to reserve only for the privileged.

Whilst I agree, I am not sure that conservatism created these terms and more especially for the purpose you mentioned. IMHO it is liberalism or at least secualr liberal realists and progressives, that tends to have ore of a sense of humour about such things as faux science, 'alternative spirituality' and other such wooery!

No, it's conservatism all right. They are the only ones who use those terms. But don't confuse their mocking of civil rights concerns with a sense of humor.

"Woke" is kind of a silly term for just being aware of social issues, but at least what it actually refers to is a positive thing. "Woo" is a funny term to refer to stupid shit people believe in for no good reasons, especially stupid shit that takes itself very seriously.

Am I the only one who thought this topic might be about the once-very-big-but-now-you-never-hear-anything-about-him action film director John Woo?

Well, Catman thought this would be about the 'Anthology of Interest II' episode of Futurama where Bender becomes human. He said, "Woo!" a lot in that episode.

I wasn't woke to what woo was either. OK now I know. I noticed that Wikipedia is a little loose with its word usage. A site that I used to consider pretty family friendly likes spreading "shit" around. One paragraph had bullshit and batshit in it. Granted the batshit was coupled with the word crazy to emphasize the amount or level of insanity. It is interesting how somethings that at one time were considered to be extremely offensive have become so commonplace and accepted as "safe" that few even notice it now. I'm sure most of you didn't even bat an eye or even think about the use of the word "shit" there. Sometimes I notice and get concerned about young children being exposed to things too early, other times I'm like everyone else and don't even notice the shit.

That's not Wikipedia, it's Rational Wiki - a sort of tongue-in-cheek Wikipedia that makes fun of what its authors deem irrational.

I don't know what it is about the far right that seems to think fighting for social justice would be seen as something to criticize.
