3D is largely a gimmick in my mind.
but i must say i have never seen a movie in 3D but i have a feeling what i heard about it only working well for a small amount of movies (i.e. Avatar etc) i have a feeling i would likely agree with had i seen some movies in 3D. but i can just tell that damn near all, if not all, of the movies i like i would rather see in regular 2D like we have for ages now.
but basically... since i never seen a movie in 3D i suspect it might be cool initially but once that newness effect wears off ill be back to the usual 2D.

It's true that 3D is a gimmick but given a director who understands it and suitable material, it can be spectacular. Tacking it on to a movie just to make a few extra bucks doesn't do it any favours. You need to see some of the 50s 3D classics to appreciate just how good it can be, e.g. "House of Wax", "It Came from Outer Space" and "Creature from the Black Lagoon".

3D hasn't died at all. Projectors still support 3D and 3D Blu-ray are still being released.
TVs are not as good for 3D.

I got one of the last 3D tv's in Dec 16 and it just keeps blowing me away. Just this last week enjoying Moana and Rogue One from the 3D library on Sky UK. Its the closest you get to that popcorn/cinema experience at home. Hopefully this tv will last till the next wave of 3D when Cameron releases his next Avatars.
