I preferred Charmed
The women were more real.
Buffy has always been a Male fantasy superheroine.

I preferred Charmed The women were more real. Buffy has always been a Male fantasy superheroine. Actually I think it`s the complete opposite. The Women on Buffy are more relatable and realistic to me. Especially Willow and Buffy herself.

Speaking as a gal who has 3 trunks full of comics from the 1960s through the 1980s, Buffy feels more like Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, etc. Female characters written by male writers. robertjamesbell.wordpress.com/2010/06/19/comic-book-superheroine-breasts/I was nervous about Joss Whedon directing Avengers specifically because of Buffy being a poor representation of females. And the interview I read in a sci-fi mag where he bragged he made Willow a lesbian because Seth Green wanted off the show. It seemed very petty the way he phrased it, in a ha! I'll show you sort of line. Damn, the name escapes me. I subscribed to the thing because it wasn't always in the bookstores. Granted, I only made it to Season 5 of Charmed. Maybe it was Season 4...My husband died of a heart attack in 2001 & my life changed...I dropped a lot of evening tv for a few years as I needed to do school activities with my teen. I also dropped out of Smallville around the same time. Supernatural was the only one I kept up with. My kid got into anime & we'd watch it together in the evenings before bedtime.

They felt more like real women I would interact with vs Buffy who felt like Black Widow/Scarlet Witch/Black Cat...you know characters written to appeal to guys reading comic books. It was always fun going to comic shops. The guys said such insane crap. I'd be in a corner picking up Ghost Rider or Thor & they'd be saying insane stuff like theirs was the only opinion that mattered. The shop owner of the one I frequented thought I was crazy because I didnt buy the popular books. I bought Ghost Rider, Defenders, Dr Strange, Thor, Kazar...he kept trying to get me to buy X-Men, but I'd try a few issues & it just felt so artificial. So from my prospective Buffy felt more like Xmen while Charmed was more Defenders.

I think Buffy even broke with the Superheroine stereotype by giving the women personality and character, they grow and developed through the Seasons. The "Woman Power" workes as a metaphor as they have strong and complex personalities. Buffy changed how we view female Superheroes. Sorry for your loss.

I like the original Charmed very much but Buffy is the better series overall by a slim margin.
And for anyone who thinks Charmed was not a male fantasy, remember that throughout the show they turned into sexy superheroes, genies, mermaids, valkyries, wrestlers, vampires, faeries, and many other male fantasies.

Yeah, I remember for a while there pretty much every preview for the next episode consisted of "See what skimpy outfit Alyssa Milano will wear next week."

I liked both shows but my vote definitely goes to 'Buffy' especially for characters like Faith who is still one of my favourite characters of all time along with Angel, Spike, Dru (I wish we had gotten to see her more in the latter season!!), Glory, Anya etc and the Willow and Tara relationship which was historic for being the first Lesbian relationship on a popular TV Show.

Yeah, I remember for a while there pretty much every preview for the next episode consisted of "See what skimpy outfit Alyssa Milano will wear next week." Exactly! The problem wasn't so much the skimpy outfits but the way the actresses were treated behind the scenes. From what I heard about it in interviews with the actresses it was really bad taylorfirst1 and while 'Charmed' was created by a female writer they got rid of her in Season 4 and the one female Director they had was said to be treated like garbage. The actresses were talked down to a lot too and were told to do things that they saw as degrading for scenes that never made it to screen. 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' was said to have some problems but nowhere near as bad as 'Charmed' and fast forward to today when the actresses wanted to make a continuation series for the fans the network took the idea but replaced them with younger actresses.
