I don't see anything wrong with what he's done. In fact, it makes a lot of sense to me. Some books are so big they are hard to hold and keep open.

My gal always grabs a handful of pages, and bends them.
She thinks it makes the books permanently "hers"
( because no one else would wand a bent up book )

I love traditional paper books, but they take up so much space whereas my 8-ounce Kindle holds thousands of books. Problem solved.

Can understand the reasoning, but wouldn't do it. Don't bend the pages and only this year wrote in 2 books THAT I OWN! Otherwise, never.

No. If I am reading a large book and need to go out, I take a smaller book with me. There's always something else I want to read.

His discourse on it is deliberately pretty and a lot of effort has gone into pretty persuasion. But really he is a brute and his acts are brutal. Please tear him in half.

I’ve only done it once but I made a bit of a pig’s ear of it.
I had this very heavy paperback copy of War and Piece and decided to cut it in half to save me carrying the whole thing everywhere.
I was really struggling to make sense of the book but persevered because a lot of people had told me it was quite difficult to get into.
I was about 200 pages in when I finally realised what the problem was; I had halved the book across its width instead of cutting it in half down the spine!
Never again.

I try to keep my books as nice as possible (sometimes the wicked kitties bite the pages when I'm reading), I do reread most of my books, I always find I've missed something the first time around.
If the guy wants to cut is books in half, thats his business. When you donate books, most of them end up being recycled paper.

In one what, I get it. Sometimes you'll get a big, heavy book, and it's just inconvenient to read. I'll be reading in bed, lying in my back, and trying to find a comfortable way to hold above the weighs as much as a bowling ball.
On the other hand, I'm very anal about taking care of my books. This is why I don't lend books out anymore. At the very least, they'd come back with some dog-eared pages, and I'd hate it.

I've only done that with tour guides. I'll tear out the pages that are devoted to the cities that I'll be visiting, and other information that's pertinent to my trip.
In his videos, Rick Steves suggests doing that. Of course, if people rip up his guides, he probably stands to sell more books.
