How hard is it to bring a Story inspired by "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" by Robert Browning. About a Gunslinger the last in the line of Knights descended from King Arthur, in a post apocalyptic world that went through the Era's of Magic, Industrialization, Computer Age, Artificial Intelligence Age, back to the Cowboy Age of America's West. Where you are apt to see Demons, Cybernetic 70' Tall Bears, AI Robots, Barbarian Outlaw Princes, Merlin, and Doorways to our world that take you to 60's, 70's and 80's New York? Should be simple... deadline.com/2020/01/the-dark-tower-series-adaptation-dead-pilot-amazon-not-going-forward-1202830606/?fbclid=IwAR3d06RRaezHnX2as_y06EivO6v1Z31nkthXi2bXDfWLb3Be9VR3JXtLom8

They are shopping it around to Netflix, HBO and few other outlets. I think they made a mistake starting it with Young Roland vs The Big Coffin Hunters in season 1 and then following up with Young Roland vs the Skin Walker in Season 2. (if it were picked up) I would take any faithful adaptation but telling it out of order to the books seems an odd choice. Half of Season 1 should be the Gunslinger (not a lot of Plot there. you could tell the story of the first book in 5 one hour episodes) The Drawing of the 3 could be told in 7-8 episodes and finish out season 1. After that just go book to season.

It is the most narratively straightforward and gets us into the mind of a Roland at his most normal. Otherwise they should ditch all the last stuff and focus on his katet minus Stephen King. They should not be as chronologically messy as the books. A lot of things could be edited to make it TV friendly.

I disagree I would rather introduce Roland as an adult and establish him as his broken determined self and flashback to his younger self. Also establishing the world as moved on should be done first and just give glimpses of when the light of the world wasnt extinguished.

The show cannot follow the book structure. While it can start with the first book the focus should be Roland in that timeframe. Maybe one flashback episode to coalesce where he came from but eventually they are going to need to do a season of Wizard and Glass which would largely replace the main cast. Who knows. Watchmen was able to play around with it but most shows aren’t good enough to do that imo.

Watchmen was able to play around with it but most shows aren’t good enough to do that imo. I think it can be done. Running 2 concurrent plots. It would be tough but has been done before. And the first book is told with flash backs too. It could be the structure of the show I suppose. If they were to start off with Young Roland I would still have an older Roland too. They could start it off with him Entering Eluria, before Tull. Use the plot of the story with the Vampiric Sisters, the boy, and his escape from the Hospital as a framing device. Transplant the telling of the story of Roland's Test of Manhood Story from Jake to the other boy in the hosptial. Then have Tull and Brown. Use Jake and Roland's Sun Stroke to Frame rest of Mejis story. Then finish off the book. Start season 2 like Drawing of the 3 and use the Time Shuffling of when Roland's sick with Eddie and Odetta to frame the story of the Skin Walker, but leave out Tim's Story with Flagg/Dragon/Merlin. Flash back inside of Flash back might be too much. You could even have Detta listening to the story of the Skin Walker too. Maybe draw some parallel's in the story to the Skin Walker. It's not in the book. The Skin Walker knew what he was, but you could fudge and make it to where he didn't. Giving an allegory to Detta/Odetta's situation. In Season 3 you could use some of the Marvel Books as flash backs using the current situation going to Lud as the framing device. Also as they get closer expand on the stories of Fair day and Riddling as flashbacks. Season 4 would be Wolves, and you could continue the Flash Backs being framed by current events of telling Father Callahan's story in Salem's Lot, Season 5 and 6 would be a mesh of Songs of Sussanah and the Dark Tower. You could continue the framing and flashbacks telling Ted's, Shemy's, Ernie's, and Patrick's past. If done right you could kind of go the Lost method. As flashbacks as the telling of the past concurrently, using them to elucidate the current problems.

(See what I did there ) www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2020/05/stephen-kings-the-stand-exclusive-first-look?fbclid=IwAR1_7gV6uP0htsBgy8OOL3iC5rRI4omwD3p6HAupDemnhHmfCNacvdLQ0wYSeems like to differentiate itself from the original mini and movies like Contagion, they aren't going from Project Blue Base and Patient Zero Campion, to out break, to fall of the society. They are starting in or around Boulder Co and flashing back to when the outbreak starts to tell the story. The foundation of the Boulder Free Zone was, what, over half way through if I remember correctly. We both know flash backs can be hard hopefully they nail it.
