I was just reminded of two singer-songwriters of the (mostly) 1970's, who both died young, Harry Chapin as a result of a horrific car crash in New York in 1981, and Jim Croce in a 1973 Louisiana plane crash, that was caused when the airplane he was in...." clipped a pecan tree at the end of the runway (the only tree in the area!)" upon takeoff (why would ANY airport have ANY trees anywhere near ANY of their runways?). Any other celebrity deaths that come to mind when discussing untimely passings ?? SAVE FERRIS

Aaliyah. overloaded plane flown by a high pilot with a suspended license crashed and killed everyone in it. Her third album had just came out one month prior. She had literally just filmed a video for what was intended to be the album's second single but because another song was getting heavy rotation on the radio so they postponed the video she had just done for the 3rd single and made her go shoot a video on the beach in the bahamas. The small plane was several hundred pounds overloaded and crashed shortly after takeoff and killed her, the pilot and 8 others

Jon-Erik Hexum (accidental self-inflicted blank cartridge gunshot to the head) I was in New York in the fall of '84 and attended a focus group study at "Black Rock" (CBS Manhattan offices) for Hexum's new tv series Cover Up, a little over a month before his inexplicable shooting death, and will always remember the odd feeling that somehow I 'knew him' the day that stunning news was all over the media..... Brittany Murphy. James Dean. Heath Ledger. Dominique Dunne (murdered by her ex-boyfriend). Jessica Falkholt (killed along with her entire family in a terrible car crash. Someone I know was only a few minutes behind the Falkholt's car and pretty much had a front-row seat to the accident recovery scene while she waited for the road to be cleared).

To me, the saddest thing--and the most infuriating--about the death of Anton Yelchin is the uncaring (and callous) way some people dismiss it, saying in effect, "Well, it was his own fault--he was so careless to leave his car's engine running." Even if that had been true, does that mean he deserved to die because of a moment's negligence? Of course not. But here's the kicker: it wasn't carelessness on his part: there was a flaw in the design of his vehicle (which I believe resulted in a recall of that model) that caused the emergency brake to slip out of gear, making the car roll backwards, and--well, we know the rest. I can never see any of the re-launched Trek movies (which I, unlike many "purists", like very much) without getting a lump in my throat every time Anton comes on screen. What a waste of youth and talent!

Although Jesus Christ was only a minor celebrity at the time I think he could have gone on to do bigger things.

Although Jesus Christ was only a minor celebrity at the time I think he could have gone on to do bigger things. Agreed.....though having to handle the pressure of being billed as the Son Of God everywhere he went, and constantly having to mediate all the squabbles of those 12 'holier than thou' guys in that posse he tended to travel with, would have only made his struggle to reach the top of the "celebrity" world that much more difficult... Official Disclaimer: No disrespect intended, or implied, to the Son Of Man, His Disciples, the Catholic Church, or to GOD himself. SAVE FERRIS

Then there are the timely celebrity deaths. There was a midget actor on a soap opera Passions. His character Timmy died in the broadcast show on the same day he died in real life. Maybe the greatest timely celebrity death was musician Col. Bruce Hampton, who dropped dead onstage during his own tribute show. Two hours of accolades from friends and fellow musicians, then during the jam celebrating his music, Hampton suffers a massive heart attack and dies onstage. Really, is there a better way to go?

I guess I always think of Marilyn Monroe (age 36), Jeff Chandler (age 42), Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin (all of whom were 27 at time of death), Jane Mansfield (age 34), and Sharon Tate (age 26). Also, Selena Quintanilla (age 23).
