I used to rewatch certain movies a lot, but lately I find it's something I do more rarely. Just too many movies and too little time. Hell, I used to live watching the entire Godfather trilogy every year or so, but that's like a 10 hour commitment, and it's been quite a while since I've done that.

Yes, there are too many films. Too many new films come out each year. And thankfully the current "freeze" on new films has given us a bit of a break. You wanna see all the past films that sound interesting to you, but it's hard to keep up when there are so many new films released each year that sound interesting also (especially during awards season). I only own around 50 films or so on DVD/VHS (yes, I still have VHS tapes!). I cannot imagine what it's like for people who have a film collection with hundreds of films -- do they ever get around to watching more than a few of those films each year? I'm sure most of the films in their collection go YEARS without being re-watched. In my particular case, I want to see as many of the films that I've never seen before -- I've got a long list for that. But there simply isn't enough time, or I oftentimes just don't have the desire to watch a movie. We're already in April and I have only watched 23 films since the year began.
With all that being said, I have found that sometimes I have learned to appreciate a movie better after a re-watch than when I first saw it. A notable example of that is The Godfather. On my first viewing, I thought it was somewhat boring. I re-watched it several years later and I loved it. If someone asks me what's my favorite film, that's usually my go-to answer.

I re watch movies all the time, mostly because i have enjoyed the movie and sometimes its because i want to give the movie a second try.

I find that my opinions on a given movie often change - sometimes quite fundamentally - when I re-watch it. There are some movies that didn't appeal to me all that much on first viewing that I really warmed to second time round. Each separate viewing experience is unique.
Quite aside from that, there are plenty of movies out there that I would have no interest in for one reason or another. In such instances, I'd prefer to revisit an old favourite (preferably after a long gap between viewings) than commit myself to watching a first-time viewing I'm not really all that interested in.

Well it's an interesting point I thought of too. I used to watch the same movies over and over and a few newer ones but when I got access to a certain torrent site I started watching tons of old movies I had never seen before or heard of. But it occurs to me I could never watch all of the ones I bookmark, same goes for tv shows. If I wanted to focus on a particular actor and watch all of their stuff--in some cases there would be films that may be impossible to get. I rarely watch new movies as a result that I am looking so much into the past. Especially since I only watch movies in the evening usually on certain days of the week so not really that much movie watching time when it comes down to it.

In fact, Catman may just rewatch 健忘村 because it's quite a nice comedy. Heck, he may even rewatch Anna and the Apocalypse even though it's a Christmas zombie movie.

The older I get the more I tend to watch new movies as opposed to revisiting old favourites.
While it's true that there are plenty of films to choose from today, If you boil it down to your favourite genres, then I don't think the selection is that large.
Personally I don't like zero budgeted small indie films with amateur actors, I'm not interested in Bollywood musicals either and there are quite a few comedians whose whole body of work I'm willing to dismiss as not being compatible with my taste of humour. I don't really care about early silent films either (with a few exceptions). And these are just a few examples. I could narrow it down further.
In fact the only area of film where I think there are a still a lot of movies I would be interested in watching would be Japanese anime. I don't really like real-life Japanese films, they are usually too weird for my taste, but I liked most anime productions I watched so far and I know there is a lot more out there.

My own dvd/blu watching has decreased the past few years, mostly because life & time. I'm well aware that fast quicker media has almost certainly affected me, unless it's a new film, I tend to re-watch 2-3hr movies over the course of a couple days now, like a book. I just don't crave sitting in a chair watching one familiar thing for 3hrs like I used to. I've come to terms with that though, like reading a book, which is ironic because books are the antithesis of our hyper media age.
