Eh. Whatever. She's a fraud. She overlooked 5 Star Wars feature films. She didn't give a female director a chance even once.

And yet she is still one of the most successful producers in Hollywood history.

Well Episode IV is the only one that ever won Oscars, so there's that.

Well Episode IV is the only one that ever won Oscars, so there's that. Episode 5 won an Oscar for Best Sound and a special achievement for Visual Effects. George Lucas and the cast walked away without a win though - unlike Episode 4 that got 7 Oscars. Having said this, the Oscars are political. You don't play the games (campaign with advertisements, pay key members, etc.), you don't get the awards. Fox campaigned with a full page for Ben Burtt, but I don't believe they campaigned beyond that. There was much more playing the game with Episode 4: It's long believed that George Lucas' issues with the Hollywood unions (specifically the Directors Guild of America) also played a large part in the OT not winning anymore awards at the show.

Yep. The Directors Guild of America held a permanent grudge against Lucas because he kept the opening crawl in all of his SW movies (among other things). And it violated an opening credits rule. Rumors swirled that the industry conspired to keep him from winning any awards except for technical ones. It was also around this time that rift started to grow wider between popular films not winning awards and (so-called) artistic films winning.

Rumors swirled that the industry conspired to keep him from winning any awards except for technical ones. It was also around this time that rift started to grow wider between popular films not winning awards and (so-called) artistic films winning. Gary Kurtz in one of the Lucasfilm documentaries (pre-Disney) said the union allowed them to get away with it on Episode 4 because 'It was a weird little science fiction B-movie they didn't think would make any money'. However, when Episode 4 (originally just titled 'Star Wars') blew-up into a phenomenon, then they had an issue with it. The Directors Guild of America insisted on opening credits for Episode 5, George Lucas said 'no', they tried to pull Episode 5 from release, they failed at that, then they fined him $250k (there's rumors they tried to fine Kershner as well), he paid it, promptly dropped out of the Directors Guild of America, dropped out of the Motion Picture Association of America, and the rest is history... It's a pretty weird to think about now considering it's just expected for new Star Wars movies to come with an opening crawl...well, outside of the standalones, of course.

Well Episode IV is the only one that ever won Oscars, so there's that. I still love the fact that Annie Hall won Best Picture over it.
