Waiting for a company to get back to me about a Job I applied for and am really interested in.
I know that they let you know even if they dont want to proceed with your application so I know as of now I am still “in the game” and keep checking my email as well as the application portal over and over like a maniac.
anybody else in a similar situation?
oh yeah and I love Tom Petty.

I'm not in this situation now but have been in the past. I ended up not getting the job but shortly after started my own business and never looked back. Things will work out no matter what happens. I hope you get your job. Oh yeah, I love Tom Petty too.

I know Corona slowed things down and especially for this job as it is in Italy, so I get it, things move slower... I am not qualified for the job on paper but wrote a motivation letter that shows my passion as well as learning abilities and I hope I will at least get an interview. Thats my main hope for now to be honest.

WOW, 27 days is a long time! With all this going on I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. A few months ago I was contacted by a Chinese manufacturer who wanted to give me a contract.. They moved their plant to Vietnam to get around the tariffs. I would have had to go to Vietnam for at least 2 months and help set up operations in the states. It was an enormous amount of money but I chose to decline the job. It may sound ridiculous but I turned it down because of my dogs. One in particular. I look back now and have no idea of what would have happened if I would have taken that job. Sometimes things work out for the best. I'm sure whatever happens will be the best for you. I hope!

I hope! its not silly at all. several years ago i took a 2 week job in another country and added one week as a vacation to it and left my cat at home alone with cat sitters coming by every day. my cat got sick during the 3rd week and died 10 days after I came home. She was 14 and it was an old age kidney failure not something that anyone caused, but to this day I feel bad about having left her for so long and it had caused me a lot of pain. I actually went to therapy over the enormous guilt I felt (and still feel). Would never make the same mistake again. Good for you and your dogs.

I got past the phone interview. Then I had a Skype interview which went very well. Then they called me and said that they have stopped all the recruiting and hiring processes due to coronavirus.

So its now been a month. I guess I will still keep on waiting to hear. In an ideal world I would forget about it and just be reminded of it one day when I get the "yes/no" email, but so far no such lack, and I still think about it almost everyday.
But I am also looking for other jobs, and expanding my search to new professions/roles that I didn't consider before. but there are some really interesting jobs out there even during this time. mostly data related. of course the competition now is much more fierce too. anywhere i look its 200+ applicants pretty much. oh well. will keep on waiting and searching. somethings bound to give sooner or later.
I now again applied for a job I am not qualified for but would really love to do. I mean why not apply right? You got virtually nothing to lose. Maybe I will stand out because I am different...

So it has now been two months. The application still has a “pending while applications are being reviewed” status but I am not holding my breath.
in the meantime, I was NOT hired as:
1. a cat sitter - this one kinda stings because I love cats and have had cats for many years and would have enjoyed cat sitting and I had all the qualifications they said they were looking for. Oh well.
2. Star Wars Game Writer - oh well, I kinda knew this one wouldnt work out since I didnt have all the qualifications they needed but one never knows. I would have enjoyed it immensly I think.
3. Netflix content classifier - well... again a long shot, havent done it before but would love to learn and do it.
So so far no luck.
But still waiting on a few.
How about you?

But still waiting on a few. How about you? That sounds like a lot of people waiting for unemployment or their stimulus! Have you checked to see if they're still taking applications? As far as the cat sitter goes I'm sure there are MANY people applying for that position so I wouldn't take it personally. I know something will come along and it will be perfect for you.

Yes I did check and the application taking is closed and has been closed since March 12th. I asked my friend who works in the company and who told me about the post, to see if they maybe had a hiring freeze since Italy was affected so much by Corona, and he said that yes they did but only for roles that would have been posted since then, so the one I applied for shouldnt be in scope for that. But I can imagine there were hundreds and hundreds of applicants, it is a really cool company/role. On top of it they wanted masters degree in a different field of education than what I have so I am not too hopeful, but it would be nice to "know". I would be super happy just to get a phone interview at this point, and do well there, even if they dont hire me, it would be cool to talk to them. The cat sitting - yes, I bet there is a ton of people that want to do that, but I thought perhaps me being a lawyer would somehow make me stand out, and make the owners feel like "ok, this is going to be a responsible trustworthy person" BUT maybe it was actually a disadvantage, because either people distrust / fear lawyers or the company is (rightly so) afraid I wouldnt be doing this full time/long term, which I did let them know in the cover letter, that ideally I would do this just 1-2 days a week and under "write something we would remember about you" I wrote "I can prep your cat for the bar exam" I dont take it personally I am just sad I wont be around kitties. I love cats so much and really miss being around them and thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to satisfy the cat craving I have and do a good job at the same time. Thanks for your words of encouragement. I too believe something good will come along, before I can resume my creative projects, I guess its just a matter of time. Fingers crossed

Fingers crossed That's good, maybe even a "50% off your first felony" discount! Have you ever looked into putting your name out there for being a cat sitter? There are sites out where you can advertise for pet care, babysitting, house sitting, dog walking etc... Maybe even a neighborhood site? People look at your profile and get in touch with you. Although right now probably isn't the best time with so many people being at home but you never know.

I have dog sat before and thats good too, but cats are my true love. If nothing comes by within a month or two I will seriously look into cat sitting.By that time maybe people start going to work or travel too, so there will be actual need.
