Burnt By The Sun...Powerful award winning 1994 drama of a popular senior Red Army officer and his family facing Stalin's Great Purge of the late 1930s. The beautifully composed film elegantly intertwines personal and political themes of love, trust and betrayal from Russian director and screenwriter Nikita Mikhalkov who also stars, co-written by Azerbaijani screenwriter Rustam Ibragimbekov.

Barabbas 1961 crucifixion scene filmed an actual eclipse of the sun.
Not the best quality, but you get the idea:
Trivia: The solar eclipse that takes place during the crucifixion scene was the real thing, an event for which director Richard Fleischer delayed shooting in order to capture the ethereal nature of the phenomenon on 15 February 1961.

Sunshine CleaningIn order to raise the tuition to send her young son to private school, a mom starts an unusual business -- a biohazard removal/crime scene clean-up service -- with her unreliable sister.
This movie is better than it sounds in the blurb ... some smaltzy moments but enjoyable.

Underrated sci-fi movie Sunshine (2007). Not underrated. It jumps the shark in the third act when it changes from (more or less) feasible sci-fi to horror fantasy. Rated at 7.2 on IMDb which is fair.

Follow the Sun (1951) dir: Sidney Lanfield. Biopic of golfer Ben Hogan. Abril Despedaçado (2001) directed by Brazilian maestro Walter Salles, and released worldwide as Behind the Sun. A young man resists carrying on the centuries-old blood feud between two local families in N.E. Brazil. Recommended. That Evening Sun (2009) dir: Scott Teems. Rare opportunity for Hal Holbrook to take a leading role in a theatrical release, and he nails it. An aged Tennessee farmer resists being moved off his farm and into a retirement home.

Black Sun (2017-?) is a Serbian TV series (original title "Senke nad Balkanom" Shadow over the Balkans) available on Amazon Prime. It is getting rave reviews. I hope it is released on DVD eventually. A broad canvas of local and high-level crime, capitalism, politics, espionage, etc, set in the Balkans in the 1920/30s, a pressure-cooker of intrigue.

Black Sunday (1977) dir: John Frankenheimer is an action thriller about Black September terrorists plotting to massacre folks at the Super Bowl by exploding the Goodyear Blimp over the stadium. The Blimp acts Robert Shaw, Bruce Dern and Marthe Keller off the screen. Biggest defect is the constant interspersing the on-field action. Who wants to watch that crap? The World Cup took place in the USA in 1990. Should have waited for that. It was a boring World Cup (with England not competing) so a terrorist threat would have livened it up.

Another Black Sunday is "La Maschera del Demonio" (1960) dir: Mario Bava, released worldwide under the former title. I do not like horror movies but I had heard good things about Bava, so I invested in this one. I lasted about 10 minutes. Makes your average Hammer Horror look like "Gone with the Wind".

I like John Sayles' work but Sunshine State (2002) is one of his weaker efforts. It is like a soap with a amiable but diffuse plot and a Hollywood ending tacked on. It is about the widely differing reactions of locals to developers moving in to a sleepy North Florida coastal town.
