Rear Window is a gem. Apart from the stunning set built for the apartments, and the way the camera makes Grace Kelly almost painfully gorgeous, it's some of the smaller things that continue to strike me.
When Raymond Burr is sitting in the dark in his apartment and all you see is the glow of his cigarette when he draws on it. You can just make out a suggestion of a face and a tiny glint reflected in his glasses... amazing camera and lighting for the 1950's.
That small gap leading into the street. It's only a thin slice of a view, but so much is going on, and all filmed inside the studio.
A great film.

I'm constantly in awe of Rear Window. I'm constanly in awe of Hitchcock. You can watch his movies again and again thinking you already know all the ins and outs and somehow he still manages to surprise you. I keep finding new things in his movies all the time and Rear Window is no exception. Haven't seen it in many moons though. I'm thinking of watching it again this week.
