of meats at the store? Our store was well stocked last week, but haven't been out this week. Several people have mentioned very little meat selections, one person even said all that Sam's Club had was 10lb logs of ground beef when they were there. Most of the stores in the area have put a 3 or 4 package limit on all meats in stock.

As a vegetarian, Catman pays no attention to the meat counters when he shops. However, he has heard on the news that most stores in the area are limiting the number of packages of meat which customers can purchase in one trip. If things get worse, they may tighten restrictions further.

When I went to the store on Friday, they were limiting three packages of Ground Beef...
I went there for two, but when I saw the limit, I figured I might as well pick up one more... I didn't know if I would find any the next time. (I haven't seen Toilet Paper in the stores in the last two weeks...)

I was able to get a pack of 2 rib eyes and 4 petite filets for WKD last week, I don't eat steak but he eats it once a week. I also bought 2 packages of ground chuck (about 1 1/2 lbs. each), this was at Publix. The meat selection at Rouses was very poor. I buy a lot of chicken products from Schwans, so far I've been able to get what I order but they have postponed my next delivery to May 26th instead of May 12th, I think they are short of drivers. I'm more concerned about a cat food shortage, WKD and I can eat potatoes but the kitties need their cat food.

My local Winn-Dixie had plenty of meat and toilet paper yesterday.

Yesterday, I was in a tiny local store that sells meat, fish and deli-style sandwiches. They were out of beef cuts, but that may have been due to a difference in deliveries during lock down. It was in the late morning. They had chicken and fish.
One thing that was different is that they have packaged bone-in pork chops into "twos," in shrink wrap. They have always sold chops individually. I had one, and put the other in the freezer.
In ordering from a larger, general market, I had no trouble getting a chicken, and a pound of ground beef.
I'm not hearing complaints about difficulty in getting meat, here.

The meat section was largely sold out back in March when the panic buying first started, since then it's gotten back to more 'normal'. Now, there's a slight shortage, but what's really scaring people off is the prices, hamburger's $6 a pound, roast beef is $8 a pound, steak ranges from $8.30 a pound to $13 a pound.

I went shopping yesterday. Except for ham it seemed like my little store had everything in the meat department.
BUT like Nova stated the prices were higher. I think everything was at least a dollar more per pound than when I had been there 2 weeks before.
Good thread!

Fresh meats about the same as always BUT the Pizza and prepared frozen dinners have gaps in the freezers.

Fresh meats about the same as always BUT the Pizza and prepared frozen dinners have gaps in the freezers. Frozen Pizzas have been in low supply, in my area, since this started... Garlic Breadsticks have been popular sellers... And Sour Cream was oddly sold out at one store a few weeks ago. LOL! Not sure if people are really hoarding, more people are cooking at home, shipments (Truckers) are spread too thin... Or if there are just food production shortages, due to the economy from being nearly closed shut...Yeah, even though there were limits on meat last week, it was still lower than normal, but no gaps... Keep in mind to watch out for the "Domino Effect", though... A lack of "Ground Beef" and "Pork" from Processing plants, doesn't just affect the meat department in the grocery stores... We've already seen that Wendy's has been having trouble making burgers at their restaurants... Could OTHER burger shops have similar supply problems soon?... And what about other restaurants? "Taco Bell" uses beef... Pizza Shops? Sausage... Chicken shortages? There goes KFC! But we also might have difficulties in finding, jarred "Spaghetti Sauces with MEAT" or even "Meatballs" as well as "Frozen Pizzas with Sausage Toppings", among a huge list of many MANY other foods in the isles at our grocery stores, for a while... I'd like to send a BIG "THANK YOU" to EVERYONE working out there IN ANY PART OF THE FOOD INDUSTRY that is taking risks and working hard to keep the rest of us fed!

Re: Wendy's ... their "supply problem" apparently is that they only serve "never frozen meat patties" !

I am doing this every time I shop. I am trying to go only every other weak. BUT storage is a problem. AND I run out of essentials. Ugh! This is difficult. I used to shop 3 X per week.

sunshine: I'm not seeing shortages of any meats across the board (beef, pork, poultry, seafood). Once in a while I'll see the hot dog or bacon sections pretty well picked through in certain stores, but it's only a sporadic event. Prices seem to be stable, as far as I can tell. What I am perceiving is a shortage of shoppers: seems like a lot of people just don't want to be out in grocery stores with the fear of the virus hanging over everything. So my hunch is a lot of people are limiting their grocery store visits to a lot less than what they normally would've done before all this kerfuffle started.

Trimmed poultry is scarce. Supplies of beef are better but shelves are noticeably less full.

The price increases mentioned by some posters here is interesting. How high can they jack up the prices during a time when many people are jobless and have no income? At some point, painfully high prices will cause demand to drop off. You're then going to find a lot of unsold meat products: look for products put in the mark-down bin with the prices significantly slashed in order to try to sell it.

Now I'm going to shop every other week, next shopping day is May 15th but it will mostly be fresh produce, fruits, bread and dairy. My Schwan order has been postponed for 2 weeks, I think they have a driver shortage.

But it is lots better than my 3 X week like before. I spend between 300 and 400 . Luckily that's not too much for us.
