Not to speak for her, but she is serious I have never seen anyone praise Russian boys/men as a whole, when it comes to their treatment of women. Or hoping they will not be addicts/ after money or do fun and run. I am sure there are Plenty Russian men who are simply amazing, and just like mslo79 says, there is good and bad in every nation (or race, ethnicity, gender, whatever) But the (stereo)typical Russian nature is usually described as one of proneness to liking alcohol a bit too much, crudeness, cynicism, attachment to assets, focus on display of wealth (more than your average American). This is not to say Each Russian is like that, but if we are generalizing and saying something about nationals as a whole, I am just shocked someone would pick Russian men as an example of not going after money or becoming addicts etc. Now this is from someone who speaks Russian, knows and likes many Russians and spent time in Russia both for fun and work at one point. I wish her the best, I am just surprised to see the praising of "Russian boys" as a whole. but there is also Russians in Russia and Russians in other countries… In this case it's just a matter of her being interested in this particular guy. I have never spent time with any Russians. I don't really know much about their stereotypes either. You are quite the worldly woman

I didn't pick my current interest to get back at anyone. I genuinely like him. Though in the past I acted like a slut just so I could be the opposite of my mother's plan for me to be a virgin bride sold off in an arranged marriage. My mother only wants me to be with (and she makes detailed lists of ethnicities/nationalities I can and can't date) Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese men and I am mostly attracted to white men. If anything, I might be better at reading Russian than aurally comprehending it. My parents sent me to 6 years of Chinese school to learn thousands of Hanzi characters so I don't understand why English speakers have such a hard time with the Cyrillic alphabet. I started learning at 25 and it's been about a year and a half. Nope, never been to Russia. Did she also tell them to get plastic surgery? And why would she want you to date a korean guy now if they had 'unappealing smells' to her 3 years ago? Stop trying to constantly spin your stories around to something else when they're not convenient to you anymore. You've complained for years about your christian western parents who told you to bleach your skin and to get plastic surgery to look more western. You act western, you say you look western, you've said you don't speak, read or write chinese fluently, and you've said you were only attracted to wheit men. She told me to date Koreans when I was in college and I still think it's true today. She told me Koreans smelled bad when I was in high school. Many Chinese people have told me I look like I'm mixed with Caucasian, and there are ethnicities like that in China and the rest of Asia. But it's obvious they don't mean I look fully European or something. My parents think my Mandarin is poor, but I was able to communicate just fine in Mandarin every day when I worked at a Chinese grocery store. I have literacy issues in Chinese despite my years of Chinese school because it's not used very often in Canada so I forgot most of the characters.

You are quite the worldly woman I've been picking up Russian-speakers with my limited language skills and spending time with them for over a year. I think I have a decent sense of what the ones who end up in North America are like. Here are some that stick out in my mind: 1. Computer science student. Took me out to a zoo. Asked me if I've ever thought of starting a family. 2. Film student I met on Tinder. Told me his kids are going to learn Russian when he has his kids in Canada. 3. Kazakh cook in Miami Beach. 4. Ukrainian tourist who took me and the Kazakh guy to Key West. 5. German-Russian guy from Siberia who took me out for 2 nights, first to the night market and then to 2 clubs the next night. Kissed me goodbye on the cheek. 6. Student studying in Ohio who was in Miami Beach for a weekend and tried to buy me a drink but I wasn't that into him. 7. Ukrainian hostel owner in Atlanta who asked me if my English name was my real name or something stupid people can pronounce. It's the latter.

I think its a lovely language and has so much culture and history behind it. Have you ever been to Russia? If anything, I might be better at reading Russian than aurally comprehending it. My parents sent me to 6 years of Chinese school to learn thousands of Hanzi characters so I don't understand why English speakers have such a hard time with the Cyrillic alphabet. I started learning at 25 and it's been about a year and a half. Nope, never been to Russia. maybe because their parents didnt send them to not 6 but not even 5,4, or 3 years of the school in that language? No, I get it, Chinese is much more difficult. I personally took Russian for about 3 years twice a month for 60 minutes as a part of my workload, so it was mostly legal Russian, so at one point I was at a weird phase where I could read and comment on contracts in Russian, but my spoken non legal Russian was fairly bad. Now since I dont use it very often at all (shame on me) I am losing it quickly. Should make some Russian friends here. I hear there is plenty of them in Brooklyn. best of luck with your Russian boy and men in general.

I totally think making decisions based on if it's a good way to "get back" at your mother is the best way to approach life....
