I expect 179m ow. Secretly i hope it just opens to just 125m.
The movie will probably perform like Iron Man II or Iron Man III

Given it is the MCU, you have to give the benefit of the doubt here and say it will likely hit that 175 million. The tracking numbers started at 10 million, and I assume they will inch up as we get the the final numbers. Then take into account it being underestimated as the weekend goes on. The only thing that could slow it down and prevent it from making as 175 million or more is the reviews just aren't as glowing as the first film.

I think it will be a little less then 175M. I am concerned that the 2nd week drop off of Guardians will be more significant compared to the first.

While I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it making $175 million on OW, the fact that it doesn't have Iron Man in it might get in the way of that.
For now, I'll just be on the safer side of things, and predict an OW of around $140-150 million.

Deadline estimates $150M, which I agree with.

I could be very wrong, but the hype doesn't scream anything over 150M domestic OW.
Also the Guardians formula has been tried in other movies recently, which didn't turn out well. So perhaps that formula is only good for these movies, and the hype has reached its peak.

After seeing the movie and just overall what fans of the MCU are saying, I don't think it will be able to hit 175 million this weekend. The reviews put it behind the first film considerably, which doesn't bode well for it to beat tracking by 25 million.
And now Deadline has it between 140 and 160 million with the 17 million it made last night.

Yes, I liked GOTG quite a bit, but after hearing less than enthusiastic reviews, honestly it's dampered my view on seeing the film in the theater. I will definitely see the film on streaming.

$138M+ is the latest estimate from Deadline.

It has only mustered a meager and embarrassing 5.5/10 rating here. I think that news will spread over the internet like wildfire and possibly tank the film's box office.

$145M OW. Another success for Marvel.

It's going to make bank and lots of it. Just won't reach the high expectations that this film had because of the positive reception of the first film.

Saw it today. With lowered expectations, I really enjoyed it. It was a bit heavy on the one liners, but not enough to ruin the movie though.

Guardians dropped 70% during the second weekend. I was concerned that the drop would be big after less than glowing reviews. I personally really enjoyed it. Maybe there was too much competition with King Arthur and Snatch, even though neither broke the bank.
Edit: 70% drop was Friday to Friday. The drop between the weekend was 57% which was way better than I expected.

It dropped 70% on Friday. The drop for the whole weekend was only 57% (boxofficemojo estimate).
