Both films are considered to be very disappointing superhero films. In your opinion, which film is worse and why?

Superman Returns is weaker simply due to its slow pace.

Superman Returns. At least Spider-Man 3 had action scenes and wasn't afraid to get silly. Meanwhile, Superman Returns felt like a eulogy instead of a comeback.

Spider-Man 3 is worse.
Superman Returns is erasing Superman III and Superman IV, which is a plus right off the bat and is a relatively well made movie and has a more focused narrative than Spider-Man 3. Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor craps all over the villains in Spider-Man 3.
I don't think Superman Returns is dull like most people do. I had a fun time when I saw it at the cinema. I had a fun time watching Spider-Man 3 at the cinema as well, but for ironic reasons.

I enjoy Spacey as Lex Luthor, but other than that I find Superman Returns pretty damn dull. Spider-Man 3 isn't very good, but I'd rather watch it.

Superman Returns, which has some issues but has some glorious moments.
Spider-Man 3 has too much story, too many things going on, weird dancing, too many bad guys but it's never boring.

It's funny because these movies are almost the antithesis of each other. One fails because there's too much going on, the other fails because there's not enough.
Returns has grown on me a bit, though. I felt it a long bore when it came out, but after Snyder, I admire its attempt to humanize the character without turning him into a brooding psychopath.

Superman Returns is painfully dull. They tried too hard to make it a 2000s follow-up to the Christopher Reeve films, but too much time had passed and it lacked the charm inherent in those movies. It was a lifeless movie. It's the weaker of the two - not that this is saying much.
Spider-Man 3, on the other hand, is a complete mess from a narrative standpoint. It does have some good special effects though and has a bit more life to it, so I wouldn't say it's quite as bad overall.

Spider-Man 3
I say that only because I have actually never seen "SUPERMAN RETURNS" but I too have also heard disappointing things about it.

Superman Returns feels like the worst of the two. It retreads most of the same ground from the first Superman film, but feels dull and drawn out with less than stellar action sequences. In comparison to Man of Steel, it's more respectful to Superman's characterization, although the stalking of Lois's home was creepy. Meanwhile, Spider-Man 3 is overstuffed with plot lines and really bad dance sequences, but it has some enjoyment to it.

SR is worse because Lex is a psychotic clown.

I heard that when they were casting for the role of 'Superman' in "SUPERMAN RETURNS", The Final 2 Contenders for the role actually were both Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill.
I also heard that originally, Hugh Laurie was going to play 'Perry White' but then had to drop out and so the role then went to Frank Langella.

Always kind of shocked at all the criticism of Superman Returns; I love it, and think it’s fun and clever and a solid, if perhaps overly hagiographic, tribute to the Reeve movies. I like Routh, Saint, and Spacey in it and even think Bosworth is fine, if as always noted too young for the part. It’s too long for its own good, and the Supes’ son stuff is silly, but other than that I’m not sure what to criticize. I really enjoy it.
SM3, y’know, I like too—not as much as Superman Returns, and it’s weaker than SM2, but then what superhero movie isn’t? It has definite flaws, but I’ve always had fun with it.
