Is the issue of wearing masks as politicized in your country as much as it is in ours?
In the U.S. the conservatives don't want to wear masks because they believe it impinges on their freedom. The liberals cant understand why they wont wear them.
Thoughts?

Although we have our share of paranoid conspiracy theorists it’s not been such a big issue here in the UK. This might be due to our government not being all that heavy handed over making masks compulsory. That said it’s been getting more strict recently with masks becoming compulsory on public transport and soon in shops but those refusing to wear masks seem to be the type who also drop litter.

So unnecessary and I feel for that young worker as a grocery store employee myself. People get killed when masks are made mandatory by law.

Of course, there are certain people who are exempt, such as children under 2 and those with a respiratory issue.
As for me, I have asthma. So, technically, I don't have to wear a mask. However, with the way this crazy world is working, I bet someone would give me hell for not wearing a mask. All I would do is show my 'puffer' - THAT should be enough for anyone to back off....I'm hoping.
I wear one, anyway. Just consider it my contribution to protect you....as well as me.

It's the whole point of the show, in the U.S. or elsewhere.

Thoughts? I think you're over-simplifying it. My governor just had to make masks mandatory because most people were not wearing them. I doubt everyone in my area is a republican or even care about politics, they just don't want to be bothered. But I find the whole controversy/politicization of masks really asinine. Of all things people have been asked to do during this pandemic, wearing a mask in a store is about simplest thing.

Thoughts? Canada. Politicized? Not really, no. Just idiocized if you will. Canadians have learned that a big reason why our death rates via COVID-19 can be higher than others is because we have such longer life expectancies than most... older ppl with underlying conditions are nearly finished from the virus. So many of us in turn know a lot of older ppl in our lives that wearing a mask to buy groceries is not a big deal at all. Besides, most of us don't want to line up for stuff 5-10 months from now still... even as inevitable as that is. This winter will scuk... but most ppl I know are laughing how much easier it'll be wearing masks in Canadian winter. I work with someone with Kenyan descent... it's a bit of a lark that Kenya won't feel much pain from COVID-19 because their f'n average age is 19.5yrs. Sure there could be millions of Kenyans who get it... but if so many are 15-35yrs old or whatever it's not as dire on the stats sheet. Just wait for Trump to fcuk that fact up.

Here in Germany wearing masks only became mandatory in May when Corona was already slowing down. Critics accuse the government of having no exit strategy and that the real purpose behind making people wear masks is to take away more of their individual freedom to slowly instal a dictatorship.
People who refuse to wear masks are regarded as right wing conspiracy theorists or reactionaries by the mainstream. While conservatives call those who wear masks dumb sheep who naively believe the government propaganda about the dangerous pandemic which has only claimed about 9.000 lives so far in Germany when in fact original predictions went into the 100.000s.

As I have probably mentioned, about the only folk in my part of London who wear masks are foreigners being polite and assorted Nervous Nellies who are being Nervous Nellies.
Most folk put on a mask when getting on buses or trains and take them off when they do. I imagine the same thing will happen when they bring in this lark about wearing them in shops.

Joker's Wilde Why would having asthma mean you don't have to wear a mask? I would think it would make wearing a mask even more of an imperative.

Thoughts? I don't believe you will find one other country in the world where wearing a mask has become politicized to the extent it has in America. America has become a joke.

If he didn't have covid (the prevalence in that area is next to non-existent anyway) he died for nothing other than being a difficult customer.

Honestly, that's what I was thinking. Wearing a mask might make it a little harder to breathe.
I have a black mask that I use. It is a little tougher to breathe, but I put up with it.

He was killed because he was an asshole who assaulted the employee because the employee offered him a free mask to wear in the store (not a part of the video you posted). Then to compound his assholery he drove away dangerously enough that the police disengaged from chasing him. Oh and not unsurprisingly this anti-masker had a couple guns on hand.

I only put on the mask then the law requires as I don’t appreciate the sweaty face that goes with it. As for littering I noticed right from the start that many people with disposable masks throw them on the ground as soon as they come off of the stupid faces.
