I'm still there taking care of my mother A tip o' the hat to you. That can be a heavy load. When mine was in the final months of cancer some years ago, she needed assistance with everything and Dad was having trouble coping, so I spent some weeks with them until she insisted on entering a nearby hospice care facility. She said weakly one day, "You sure are going to a lot of trouble to take care of me." I told her, "Oh, now, none of that, not after all the trouble you took taking care of us for all those years." It was the last time I ever saw her smile. I hope and trust yours does her share of smiling with you there. Thank you. You were a good son to your mom. Very sorry you lost her to cancer. I do try and make my mom laugh, I'm pretty goofy

Sandman, I'm so sorry, that made me tear up too When my dad was in a nursing home his grandson asked him if he was afraid to die. He said, "No, just sad"

I never had the chance to move out. Both my parents died when I was 17. I inherited a house but would have gladly given it back for the chance to be able to move out.

Our family was not a demonstrative one, and hugs or "I love yous" were rare; sentiment made Dad uncomfortable and Mom roll her eyes, so expressions of affection tended to be as oblique and casual as the one I described. But it got the message across. Glad to hear you're goofy and go for the laughs; there's nothing better.
