“....made by highly critically acclaimed films.”
Few people are aware that Citizen Kane made Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Jack isn't even close to being as bad as Twixt.
William Friedkin - The Exorcist and The French Connection to The Guardian, Jade and Deal of the Century.
Bob Clarke - A Christmas Story and Black Christmas to Baby Geniuses and Baby Geniuses 2.

Rob Reiner was on a really good roll for a while:
This Is Spinal Tap Stand By me Princess Bride When Harry met Sally Misery
Then "North" happened and fizzled out after that

Rob Reiner was on a really good roll for a while: This Is Spinal Tap Stand By me Princess Bride When Harry met Sally Misery Then "North" happened and fizzled out after that I'd say he fizzled out after Ghosts of Mississippi. The American President is one of his best movies imo. You forgot to mention A Few Good Men.

You might not realize this, but Matilda is well rated on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. maybe so ... I did not check before posting. Is a 6.9 "Well rated "? I don't really do ratings ! I found it unwatchable and I usually like Dahl.

Rob Reiner was on a really good roll for a while: This Is Spinal Tap Stand By me Princess Bride When Harry met Sally Misery Then "North" happened and fizzled out after that The Ringer's 'The Rewatchables' did a Stand By Me pod last week. They pointed out that Reiner's directorial vision simply became passe. The types of stories & povs he was good at were no longer as populist. If you look at that list of his 80's greats, they seem fairly patient & literate films. That vibe seemed to run out of steam.

1941 - Spielberg - One critic wrote he'd be surprised if he's given a big budget by a major studio ever again. Heaven's Gate - Michael Camino (it wasn't that bad) The Phantom Menace - George Lucas

Does A.I count? Directed by Stanley Kubrick, but finished off by Spielberg? Maybe the Ladykillers remake by the Coen brothers. Rise Of The Skywalker JJ ABRAMS.

Does A.I count? Directed by Stanley Kubrick, but finished off by Spielberg? Kubrick never directed A.I. and according to Spielberg never intended to. I'm not sure it was particularly poorly received either. It generally came out to favourable reviews if memory serves
