being Sci Fi invalidates a dystopian setting? what a limiting take on a sub genre.
edit:
this woman didn't even watch the show.
what an offensive, aggressive waste of time.

That wasn't a review. At all. Like barkingpaphomet already said, the woman did not even watch the show. She just uses what she's read about the book to rant about how it's so wrong to use a Christian setting to depict a totalitarian, patriarchal distopic society.
And also says that SF isn't her genre, but she really does enjoy a good dystopian story. Which is about always SF to begin with.
She might have a fair point about the story maybe not being very good, I found the book to be rather boring, but she does veer off course rather quickly.

One does wonder why Christians always get the heat. I am not Christian so I do not care per se, but what about depicting Judaism or Islam which in extremist form are much more patriarchal in a similar light? How about a futuristic setting where everyone has to follow sharia law or you get executed for opposing halal or kosher slaughter? Strange that if someone did that they would be accused of hate, but it is ok to imagine a Christian society like that. I am not surprised the book came out of my homeland of Canada--where it is a popular game to think of ways to demonize the US.

And want to portray the world they live in in their stories. Christianity's been around for quite some time and has been an enormous influence on the world. For better and for worse. It's only natural for it to be used as a way to portray negative things.

Um yeah--Christian fundamentalism oppressing women is a HUGE problem in Ohio. Or North Carolina.
Not.
How about dealing with real life for a change? Just have the story be about an islamic takeover of America.
Why not? Sharia law is a real thing.

As if the big 6 would produce and distribute it! Come on. Don't be naive.
