I think its going to drop as low as 170M domestic, a lot of competition that will already be in theaters, competition after its release, and franchise fatigue.

I keep expecting the sequels to bomb but I have been wrong before. I'm sure its a possibility with this one, but fairly low. The Mummy is likely to break out or atleast look so when comparing it to its small blockbuster budget. Then WW will be in week 3, and if it opens big there is another movie to "possibly hurt it" then we have Despicable Me 3 and Spider-Man coming out after Transformers; The Last Knight's release. My prediction: 75M OW 170M Domestic 750M Foreign 920M WW - pretty sure it's gonna miss the billion dollar mark. EDIT: And what is sad is this Transformers looks to be the best one since the first..............IMO.

That seems to be the trend.
Transformers (2007) Open 70.5M Domestic 319.2M
Transformers ROTF (2009) Open 108.9M Domestic 402.1M
Transformers DOTM (2011) Open 97.8M Domestic 352.3M
Transformers AOE (2014) Open 100M Domestic 245.4M
I don't think it's drop will be as big as the 100M + drop that happened between DOTM and AOE, but it'll drop from AOE.

For it to miss 1B, it would have to be at about 150M stateside and make the same or less overseas. Too close for me to call it under 1B. I'd be a good thread. Over or under 1B WW.

Perhaps I am not seeing the hype for this one (although was there ever "hype" for Transformers directed by Michael Bay AFTER the first?) anyway lots of stiff competition we shall see.

Less. I originally thought it would make 1 billion ww but I'm now skeptical of that. Right now I think it's looking more like 950 million ww or so, which is still a strong gross.

Tracking for $70M OW, but it looks solid internationally.

It's the only major release at this time. So maybe it's got a head start.

It's already underperforming below its underperforming projections. Not good. However though 65 million in general is not terrible for an opening weekend. It's just not good compared to the rest of the series.

I remember being called crazy when I said the lackluster opening for part 4 would kill the franchise. Now part 5 is about to be released to under 65 million in the first 5 days.
Yes, overseas helps, but the studios don't get nearly as much of the money as they do domestically percentage wise.
With part 6 just being announced for 2019, I just don't see how Paramount plans to make much profit after this awful opening. Maybe if they go a route of a new director and maybe use the Cybertron war idea as a way to bring back many of the hardcore fans.

This movie also has a $217M budget, so if it doesn't do too well in the US (I expect a big drop off on week 2), it needs to make a killing elsewhere.
This also does not bode well for the planned bumblebee solo flick.

It looks like at least in the US the bad reviews finally caught up with the Transformers franchise. From Fri-Sun it only took in 45 million. Considering its price tag and performance of the last 4 films that's pretty disappointing. The good news for Transformers is it killed in China.
