When I was a kid, my dad never stopped trying to get me to try baked beans. He was always trying to sell me on how sweet they were. Literally. He would say "I'll give you a buck to try them." I think he raised it to $5 at one point.

Melon I guess swimming in the ocean as a kid makes that sea taste a good thing for me. One reason I like briny half-sour pickles. Though they trip my salt concerns.

I wouldn't eat soup because I couldn't see what was in it. At the boy scout jamboree, I didn't eat because they made a huge stew with all sorts of things in it. And beans when I was a kid were horrible. Lima beans, and canned string beans especially.

Were you skinny? Wonder if you had some traumatic experience. My parents always said 'Como e calete' I'm sure my spelling is off but it literally is 'eat and shut up' in.Portuguese. We weren't coddled. Lol

Were you skinny? Wonder if you had some traumatic experience. Yes, skinny, and my mom frantically tried to fix it. She was convinced I had to eat eggs so she'd sneak them into malteds and tell me there were no eggs, I'd see the shells, and we'd end up in a scene. At some point they said I didn't like eggs because my dad didn't - he'd disliked them since having to eat powdered eggs in WW2. But I said I never knew he didn't like them. Yes, brutal traumatic experience around age 6- they never knew. Why I refuse to eat creamy foods.

About fathers in WW2 my dad ate so much pineapple he couldn't stand the sight or smell. The meals must have really affected our dads! If you want to write your experience I would be interested. But I understand your hesitancy too. I had a stalker . I wrote about it on the old boards . It took weeks for me to stop having nightmares about it. It was a mistake to pull that bandaid Some things are best left buried.

I have no problem drinking saltwater (in moderation) when I swim in the ocean. I love fish, kalamari, octopus, and lots of other things fishy and briny. Just not oysters and mussels.

My Dad loved Liver & Onions... I hated it. I was so glad when my Mom quit making it for him, because the Bacon Grease which she cooked it in, was bad for him.
I don't miss Lima Beans either.
