Willis can still pull in the occasional high-profile role like in Glass or the Death Wish remake (although I've no idea why he was cast in the latter, since he seemed entirely wrong for the role). There are some directors like Terry Gilliam, Shyamalan or Rian Johnson who seem to be able to bring out the best in him, but more often than not he gives the impression of not giving a damn about anything. This was particularly obvious in the last Die Hard movie where he gave such a lazy performance that his stunt double would've been capable of doing a better acting job. Nicolas Cage on the other hand at least seems to be enjoying himself, often trying to elevate the material he's given. Nicolas Cage has actually said that he enjoys doing the DTV movies even more when it comes to acting, because the directors give him more elbow room and I assume are just happy that he agreed to star in their movie. The difference is that Nicolas Cage loves the art of acting. For Bruce Willis it seems like just a job that he is good at when he wants to be.

Well De Niro has done some direct to DVD junk and he's still revered. I mean he seems to be taking everything that's thrown at him. Nic Cage does that and he's a joke. Willis seems to be doing the same but I never see him mentioned in that conversation. To be fair Nic Cage was getting flack before doing straight to DVD stuff. He can be a fine actor when he's not hamming it up too much and making goofy faces:
