It can be ok, but I need a dollop of creamer or cream. Not much needed. I generally pour enough in to cover the bottom of the cup, then add the coffee.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I do like the smell of it. Back when I was a kid it seems like all the neighbor ladies that came over to play cards with mom or just chat always drank it black. But maybe I really wasn't paying attention. I know they liked their Winston cigarettes!

I love good black coffee but unfiltered coffee raises cholesterol and sends mine through the roof. Filtered coffee I generally take with a little milk and sugar. Also I had to take a lot of ibuprofen for months and it makes you vulnerable to ulcers and milk neutralizes the acid.

But maybe I really wasn't paying attention. I know they liked their Winston cigarettes! We drink coffee in the morning . Afterwards the grinds go in a container in the garage. When I walk out there later it smells so good. I do love the smell of coffee too!! Msstreep I need milk or cream or something to drink coffee. I can drink it black but then it is medicine to wake up. Not to enjoy

I do but for some reason it makes my mouth feel dry. Nowadays I make strong coffee and add a little bit of milk. I also take my tea strong, with just a spalsh of milk. No sugar.

I love good black coffee but unfiltered coffee raises cholesterol and sends mine through the roof. That's one of the downsides to using a French press - the coffee oils are not filtered out as a paper filter would do. Of course, that's also why some people prefer it. To answer the OP's question, yes - sometimes, but it has to be really good quality, freshly-roasted beans, freshly-ground, and using my preferred technique for brewing - the pour-over method. So IOW, expensive, time-consuming, and a general PITA. I have a grinder, a French press, a drip machine I modified to use as a pour-over maker . . . and then I ended up just getting a good (but inexpensive) drip machine, using a combo of Folger's "Classic Roast" and something more upscale (lately it's been Signature Select "Seattle Blend"), refiltering it (to catch any missing grounds/sediment), chilling it for iced coffee, and then generally adding some sugar-free syrups and a little CoffeeMate (usually Caramel-Vanilla or Snicker's Bar). Note: Folger's Classic Roast is actually a well-reviewed, medium body coffee. I prefer it to their "fancy" dark roast Columbian. My general objective is to minimize bitterness. so to aid in that goal, I add a sprinkle of salt and a little Accent (MSG) to the grounds before brewing. I have a set of four tall ceramic mugs (a killer score at Goodwill for a buck each), and I usually have two of them in the freezer with a few ounces of coffee/creamer mix in the bottom - although I actually freeze them on an angle, so the "coffeecube" is more of a cone than a disk.

Black coffee all the way. Give me a freshly roasted medium roast and I'm all set with a pour over.

Xantham gun is a odorless, flavorless, natural product used to thicken food. You can use it to thicken coffee and give it a creamy texture without adding cream, I learned recently from a food scientist video. Apparently Starbucks use it in many of their drinks, like frappuccino, to give them a creamier and thicker texture. Haven't tried it yet but I plan to.

I might give it a try as well, but IIRC, it's a bit on the expensive side. I've been using psyllium husk and glucomannan as thickeners recently, particularly the latter - but for soups/chili/stews/sauces, not something like coffee.
