Once I was chopping jalapenos and I washed my hands thoroughly, or so I thought. I then went to the bathroom. I'll never, NEVER, do that again. Ever.

Every time I tried to fry an egg or make homemade soup, always a disaster so I've stopped trying.

When Catman was growing up, carrots at his house always tasted a bit off. Then one day Catman discovered why: Catmom washed her hands (as she should do), but then she put on hand lotion before cutting up the carrots. Yuck. A simple change to putting on the hand lotion afterwards solved the problem.

Related but luckily not exactly the same was cutting up what I thought were like regular bell peppers a neighbor had brought over and absent mindedly rubbed an itchy eye..... they were HOT green peppers of some sort. Thought I would be blind and in pain for life !

If you put some eggs on to boil and forget about them ... they explode and the pan is really really hard to get the charcoal out of. PLUS the house smells really bad for a couple of days. At least the bottom of the pan didn't melt away.

Wouldn't an hour longer overcook it? I once held onto fresh lamb legs 24 hours longer than suggested before cooking. Needless to say, they all went to the garbage after cooking. Expensive mistake.

No reason to toss it ! Get a meat termometer and check that the temp has reached what it should be. Going by a "suggested time" is iffy at best !

Your lamb does sound expensive.

I just gave up. lol Oh well, everyone enjoys the Thanksgiving sides more than the turkey anyway Bat

While waiting for the water to boil while making hard boiled eggs, for some reason I had to go outside (don't remember why now) Anyway completely forgetting about the eggs, by the time I came back in the house the water had boiled dry and the eggs had exploded. It also ruined the pan.

I have another one. I often made orange/lemon poppyseed cake in the past. One day, in a rush, I pulled the spice jar off the rack, measured and stirred the spice into the cake. After it was baked and I cut a slice, I wondered where the poppyseeds went. The cake was uniformly orangish.... I had put mustard seed into the cake instead of poppyseed.
The squirrels loved it in the week that followed.

This happened last night. By far not my worst mishap, but unpleasant. I baked a 'take and bake pizza' preheating the oven to 400 degrees. I started to smell plastic burning . I looked and a screen with a plastic handle had been left in the oven by mistake the handle had melted off of the screen and fallen to the bottom of the oven/onto the filament. It was horrible. Should I finish the pizza? (still needed 10 minutes) or clean and stop the stink? I stopped, got the plastic mostly out. except the filament part. That was too difficult. finished baking the pizza. Then put the oven's self cleaning feature. It stunk! but all well now. lol

After my regular oven died, I used a fairly good size "toaster" oven, and it did a great job cooking regular dishes. I was doing a chicken dish, and I must have been careless to have spilled oil. I walked into the kitchen to see flames at top of the door. I buy those mega bags of "Arm and Hammer" baking soda from Costco. Using that in copious amounts, and unplugging it, did the trick. Fortunately, the little oven lived to toast another day. ***** I tried to pound a piece of veal for Scallopini. How challenging can it be??? Evidently, too much for me. I didn't meet the challenge. When I put it in the pan, it puffed up from the center, kind of like a round of Pita bread. It looked creepy, and I tossed it. I haven't tried it, since. But, if I do, I'll buy the pieces that the butcher has already pounded.

Deep fryer. Stationary or portable. I learned to take them serious. Only light scarring on one hand. I cringe at the youtube turkey videos. Oil heated at high temp is serious.
