If he was younger, Hugh Jackman would have been my ideal pic. I'm a huge fan of the games, dunno how I feel about a live action adaptation though, the games are so absurd and over the top, it could be to difficult to pull of "serious" tone without the movie looking riddiculous:

Pretty cool but rennet they got Michael Fassbender for Assassin's Creed and it ended up a dumpster fire

Unfortunately all my ideal casting choices are too old at this point:
Snake: Hugh Jackman Otocan: Jeff Goldblum Revolver Ocelot: Sam Elliot

My fear was always that when they made this movie they'd hire someone like Paul WS Anderson or Len Wiseman, you know, a typical action filmmaker for hire who cares so much about reverence to source material, stunt choreography and making the most cold and steely movie possible stripping away all the charm that video games actually do have. Jordan Vogt-Roberts on the other hand has made two movies that are plainly ridiculous but actually work. Kong for instance, should have been terrible, it's basically Apocalypse Now where Kong is Colonel Kurtz. It's stupid, the action is so ridiculous, but its well done. Most importantly Vogt-Roberts understood that the main character of the movie is the giant ape and he brought in an A-list cast of acting talent to make you believe in the Kong character. Like you said, the Metal Gear games are ridiculous, and it would be easy for the filmmakers to strip it of its ridiculousness and make a cold steely spy movie, but I think Vogt-Roberts will lean into it's ridiculousness and he's already on the right track hiring a cast to sell it.

I get what you mean I honestly do but was whoever Kurtz was an almost 100 feet unstoppable mutant ape? I didn't really buy into the idea of puny Samuel L Jackson being a serious threat to Kong without the bombs. I tried to.

Well that's the Apocalypse Now thing, the movie is a very on-the-nose allegory for Vietnam. American forces were never going to defeat the Viet Cong, but they still were willing to lose 58 million of their own to try. Point being, Jackson is a compelling character and you probably cared enough to stay engaged just enough to see how badly he lost to Kong.

Samuel L Jackson isn't the most likeable actor in Hollywood while I felt his grief and sadness at losing his friends he was still willing to lose more and did to those other ground monsters too. I understand his pain but Samuel is not the best messenger. It became a when will Kong discipline the brat with his bomb toys movie which I hated feeling.

Could have been Michael Biehn back in the day. In a parallel universe maybe it’s already happened.

It'd be great if they threw in some bad grammar from the original game. haha

Never played any of the games so I have no idea if this is a good casting choice or not, but Vogt-Roberts is an intriguing pick to direct.
Kong was a fun action-adventure, but you get the sense it was very much a product of its time (in this case, an MCU wannabe of sorts). Hopefully he stays away from that and makes something that feels like its own thing.

I think the only decent video game movie was Mortal Kombat, and that was mediocre at best. There is some unwritten law that video game movies cannot be great or even that good.
You never know, Metal Gear was half movie, half game.

Mind you, I kind of like Street Fighter (1994), only because it is splendidly awful.

I think the best way to make a Metal Gear Solid movie would be something along the lines of Robocop, by that I mean being aware that it's rather silly and coming off as a satire. I mean it's a film with a giant walking tank, there's only so much "seriousness" you can give to something like that. Paul Verhoeven would have been a good choice to direct.
