Home Alone always sounded to me like the perfect title for some thriller with a killer stalking someone at home, alone.

Cocoon (1985) Always makes me think of the Alien franchise, expecting some kind of a man eating monster to burst out of an huge egg.

Crazy People from 1990 sounds like a trapped in an asylum type horror thriller but is actually a comedy.

Hook (1991) When I saw this the first time as kid back in the 90s, my father asked me "You want to see this film, called Hook?" I never had a clue it was a children/adventure film about a grown up Peter Pan. To me it sounded more like your ordinary slasher/horror film, where a maniac with a hook, instead of a hand would be on a rampage, than another cute Spielberg movie made out for kids.

I always thought The Departed was a horror movie until I did some further research on it.

There Will be Blood The Nightmare Before Christmas There's are at least two crappy romance movies called Mad Love that sound like remakes of the Peter Lorre movie. Corpse Bride The Room Blood Simple

Voyage of the Damned, sounds like horror, but isn't.

When I was a kid, I got chills whenever I saw the film Going My Way in the TV listings. Before I eventually discovered that it was a wholesome comedy/drama starring Bing Crosby as a genial singing priest, I thought it was a full-length movie version of the Twilight Zone episode "The Hitch-hiker," about a woman who constantly spots an eerie hitchhiker along the road. One of the few lines the hitchhiker has in the episode is when he asks the woman, "Is it possible you're GOING MY WAY?" My older siblings used to scare each other, and me, by repeating this line in a creepy voice late at night.
The Dead
Ghost World
The Phantom Tollbooth--scary apparitions near the NJ Turnpike
Sorcerer-not a film about witchcraft, but a remake of The Wages of Fear
Blue Murder at St. Trinian's--sounds like a horror film about a serial killer committing priests and nuns at a convent, but really a goofy British comedy featuring Alastair Sim in drag.
