Cinderella is the only good live-action remake that Disney has made at this point. My favorite of the Disney live-action remakes is The Jungle Book. I liked that one, but feel like Murray was a miscast. The wolves made the film for me, but I'm biased of course ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I think she was miscast and Emma Watson isn't a very talented actress to begin with imo. I also don't care for Dan Stevens as the Beast. Chemistry is so important in a movie like this and the characters just don't have much chemistry in the remake. All of this. And I think would have preferred old school costuming and make-up as opposed to a CGI beast. Then again, Vincent Castle played it so well in the film I posted, I hardly cared, so you may be on to something there. Here is my ranking. 1. Cinderella 2. The Jungle Book 3. Beauty and the Beast 4. Alice in Wonderland 5. Dumbo 6. Maleficent 7. Aladdin 8. Mulan

Mulan is the worst remake. It is almost insulting how lazy the movie is. I have no interest in watching The Lion King remake. I forgot about Pete's Dragon. I am a fan actually. You think Mulan is worse than Aladdin? It did feel lazy, that's a good word. The Mulan story could have been taken way beyond the Disney cartoon, and they played it safe. I was also annoyed that they went in that direction and then made no reference to Mushu, but used the Phoenix instead. I still think it's worth a watch. They are close, but Aladdin has some great visual moments and Will Smith is fun as the genie. The art direction and costume design do some of the lifting as well. Naomi Scott is also very charming as Jasmine.

I'm afraid to watch Dumbo because the original is an emotional rollercoaster that tears my heart out Every. Single. Time, despite the ending. What Alice are we talking about, Tim Burton? I love both those films but find I'm an outlier there as well.

He made Genie his own instead of trying to mimic Robin Williams,' style, and I appreciated that. Naomi did do a nice job, but then again Aladdin and Jafar also really lowered the bar acting wise.

Alice in Wonderland isn't technically a remake either. Sequels, really. I'd actually be interested in a live action that follows Wonderland and a follow-up that does Looking Glass. The 1951 film is my all-time fave Disney film.

This thread is a wild ride. The Aladdin remake is one of my all-time favorite movies. Top 20 probably. I couldn't finish Pete's Dragon, and I have finished some real shit before.
I agree with the Mulan consensus though. It's really, really cringey. A huge disappointment for me because I expected to love it.

Jafar is a joke in the remake and Aladdin character is missing much of the personality that the animated version has.

I know I'm an outlier on Pete's Dragon, but I just thought it had so much heart. I was expecting a lot more from Mulan. I didn't hate it though. I'd watch it again with my granddaughter. She can watch Aladdin without me, I just can't with that one.

There is also a Russian version of the tale called The Scarlet Flower. There's an animated film that is rotoscoped which is worth a watch because it's very short.

Он - дракон (He is a Dragon) is another nice retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story. ![](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMWY3YjRmMWYtM2MyYy00ZGU1LTgxNGQtZWM5MTE2NDY1M2U3XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNTk3MDQxNzg@._V1_.jpg)
