She is. She's actually still alive. She was technically my brother's dog, but we were housemates for years, so I lived with her for about 8 years. Looks like she didn't inherit the Pekingese long hair either. Which was probably easy for you to groom. She shed A LOT though, which was a pain. Her fur looked like pug fur, but it wasn't exactly the same. You could tell when you pet her. Anyway, this is the dog I have now:

What are yours? I have to say I'm crazy about small toy breed dogs like Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Pugs, Maltese etc. Toto was a Cairn terrier, not crazy about little dogs like this.

I prefer smaller to mid-size dogs simply because I live in SoCal and homes with large yards are expensive. Plus, smaller dogs eat less. I currently have a little miniature schnauzer. He's a very loving dog full of personality. He also never really sheds, which is awesome. But, man, he's very moody and stubborn. Great dog, but I doubt I'll ever get another mini schnauzer. My last dog was a pug/pekingese. She was probably one of the best dogs I ever had. I also love springer/cocker spaniels. The pug personality is great. They have so many health problems though One of my dogd is half pug, and she has that affable pug personality without all the pug respiratory issues.

Dobermans. Loving, devoted, smart, goofy lapdogs, and intuitively protective as all get-out. (Two very likely saved my hide using intimidation alone; no biting necessary.) But, most importantly, soulmates.

I like so many of them. I like shorthair breeds because they're easy to groom. But my favorites are Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. I also like Corgis, although I've never owned one. When I was a teen, we had a Great Dane. They are such gentle sweethearts.

I had a Cairn terrier who looked more like a West Highland terrier, but the breeder said his mother was a full-blooded Cairn terrier. He lived to age 15. I used to think I couldn't live without him.

If you get a dog, make sure you have the patience. They will always mess up, especially if you get a male dog. They like to pee on everything to mark their territory, where as the females sometimes like to 'spite' pee on the carpet. Even when they're housebroken, they'll always have the occasional 'accident'. You may come home and find something chewed up.

I never even worked hard to housetrain my dog. I know how to do it. Having worked at a rescue shelter, I picked up some training tricks. He never had an "accident" in the house. He's potty trained really well, so that even in super cold dreadful weather, we can make it out, pee and potty and make it back in 3 minutes if we have to.
He's very good at communicating. He's super affectionate. Really healthy (he has Lyme but so do lots of dogs in these parts). Ever since a wee little puppy, he was always such a treasure and so easy to work with.
The flip side is that he's not very socialized (either am I, so it makes sense). So he's very protective and doesn't get along with other people too well.

But, most importantly, soulmates. We had one. They are great dogs. SO great!! And I meant to write/wanted to add that all of mine have been found via shelters/rescue; they either came to me with cropped ears, or didn't. When I'd walk cropped Sergio (my avatar) with "natural" Ava, perfect strangers would circle faaaaar around poor Serge, nervously apologizing to me for their unease re "his" breed, then grab Ava's face and pet, ear-rub, and/or kiss her for several minutes - these were adults!! - exclaiming about how sweet (luckily for them) and pretty she was, and, finally, asking her breed. (Duh!) I loved the looks of horror and backward scuttling to "safety" that resulted when I told them she was a purebred Doberman - and the dog they'd avoided was half Dobe and half Lab. My point - and I do have one - is that Dobes with cropped ears are, in my experience, *considerably* more intimidating in appearance. As a woman currently living alone, I prefer this look due to its being a deterrent, but can't see putting a puppy through the cropping process - meaning no offense to those who do - so I instead rather hypocritically look for it in shelter/rescue Dobes.

You may come home and find something chewed up. I once took care of a neighbor's dog while she was on vacation - camping, and unreachable for two weeks. He became extremely ill on Day Two, just as the temps shot up into the "low" 100s, so in addition to medicating him, I had to keep him inside/cool at all times. He did NOT tolerate other male dogs, so I had to keep him separated from my male Samoyed - who'd been house-trained after only one "mishap" at six weeks of age; Timber was *such* a little gentleman! (Um, usually . . . ) Well, he was *not* the least bit happy to have this other dog in his house, and "told" me this one day by "spite-pooping" in the middle of my bed!! My vet told me this was exactly the message being conveyed, and that such acts of spite aren't uncommon, and are no reflection on an owner's housebreaking methods. (After he'd stopped laughing, that is.)

I love all dogs.. but my favorites are Golden Retrievers, German Shepards and Pomeranians.
Normally I'm not a big fan of little dogs, but I own a black pomeranian that's a total fucking nutjob, but I love him and he's made me like pomeranians.
