Crime movies included in this one btw. Huge titles I hate to leave off... Chinatown, Goodfellas, City of God... & the 007 films probably land with this genre, alas not quite bedrock enough to chase these 4 for me... The Maltese Falcon 1941 - The Noir dive into mainstream cinema, still practically perfect for my liking. Rear Window 1954 - Hitch's masterpiece for me. Vertigo btw, 501 has it under Drama, though I suppose that's just as subjective. The premise & ideas of this movie stretch well ageless into the 21st century. The Godfather 1972 - The turning point between old & new Hollywood. Maybe only Star Wars influenced more to come. Pulp Fiction 1994 - Tarantino's magnum opus, the 1990's magnum opus... ironclad for me on this foursome.

For obvious reasons, North By Northwest has to be included, so....
D.O.A. 1950 Charade 1963 North by Northwest 1959 Desyat Negrityat 1987
Lots of Honorable mentions worthy of being fifth faces: The Stranger, The Hitch-Hiker, The Killer is Loose, Secret Agent head the list.

Out of the Past
Vertigo
Last Year at Marienbad
Blue Velvet I practically worship "Last Year at Marienbad". Though I find it almost without a category to call its own. I guess mystery is as close as any.
