He truly was a great man and a credit to humanity. We all grew up watching him and it's a shame there's nobody else that could ever take his place. He talked to his child audience about things that they may be frightened of and tried to help them learn how to deal with things they may not understand. Cheers to you Mr. Rogers

Thanks. There's a lot up on youtube. I don't know that I would watch full episodes but I just think it's important to remember the man and all he did to try and help and educate kids.

I loved his show! There has not been any children's show like it since. He was a sweet man. I've seen interviews with him and he was just who he was on his show. He wasn't fake but totally genuine. He was always kind too. A friend of mine was lucky enough to meet him in a busy airport. He didn't seem to be bothered by being asked for a photograph or autograph. He seemed flattered and talked to not just her but her whole family.

That's so cool that your friend got to meet Mr. Rogers! From what they say he is one of the few guys that are the same off camera as they are on. Once every few generations there's an extraordinary person who is in the public eye. He was that man.

Cheers to you Mr. Rogers I definitely remembered this show well . Also totally agree here Mr. Rogers seemed very encouraging and gentlemanly ( he is most certainly missed by this fan also ) . To my recollection I believe it was one of the very first shows I watched and adored at a very young age too ( even before my other favorite show The Muppets ) . Also still do watch even if it is in reruns now and when I get a chance to view it on TV ( best memories of this indeed ) . I'm so very glad I was not the only one here who appreciated this wonderful show and the fine gentleman who made it a success too . Thanks so much jayhn1111 for your subject post . OH PS - I noticed that your video is gone from your main post here jayhn1111 . So instead here are a couple I found for you and everyone else to enjoy here too . Mr Rogers Neighbourhood through the Years Classic Sesame Street - Mr. Rogers Visits

Between Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and Schoolhouse Rock, I learned more watching TV in the 70's than I ever learned in public school.

Mr Rogers Neighbourhood through the Years Classic Sesame Street - Mr. Rogers Visits Thanks! I"m glad I"m not the only one that appreciates this great man and what he tried to do for the kids. I guess maybe it's not appropriate to post it in a 70's thread since the show spanned 5 decades, but the 70's is when I watched the show so that's why I posed it. The reason it came to my mind was because I stumbled on to a youtube clip where he accepted an award and there was so much love for the guy that half the place was in tears when he got up there. It touched me too. So I felt like I wanted to make some kind of post to see if others felt the same way. I don't know why my video is gone. That's disappointing. If there's some sort of anti Mr. Rogers force on the board then that is something that we all need to address! Thanks for posting other clips. I love the one where he meets big bird. A fine animal

I loved the Electric Company and sesame street. I was lucky enough to go to a sesame street taping when I was 6 years old and got to meet the cast and saw big bird without the costume!

A fine animal You're most welcome jayhn1111 . The YouTube clip of Mr. Rogers meets Big Bird was a definite favorite of mine too . It's too bad he didn't bring Daniel the Tiger along with him to meet the folks on Sesame Street . IMPO - I actually think this was the most appropriate place to put this subject post . It seems most of us here do remember this show at just around the 1970's . The only other place I could possibly think of would be under Actors & Actresses but I think this was a way better and more memorable section to put this subject post on . I also saw that Awards Show clip on YouTube and it also made a beautiful impact on me as well . Fred Rogers' unforgetable Emmy Award speech - 1997 Again thanks so much jayhn1111 for this subject post and your replies .

I agree. Mr. Rogers was a good show. He was a great person and was good with children. His show taught good values such as to love everyone and accept everyone for who they are. A documentary movie was recently released about him called Won't You Be My Neighbor. I saw it at a movie theater last week on Tuesday July 17. It was good.

What a great topic for a thread! Nice to see some fellow neighbors who are fans of this wonderful show and man. mszanadu among them. Hello nice neighbor! I am also a huge fan of what was or even is one of the best programs that has ever been on TV. I have also seen two documentaries on him. The recent feature film and also one that was on TV years and years ago and I think I still may have a VHS copy of that. I have no interest at all in the feature film coming out soon because that is not the real Mr. Rogers. Just an actor playing him and they will probably make up or add fictitious things in there that didn't happen. A real world of make believe! LOL Have you ever seen this where Mr. Rogers testifies to congress members on behalf of PBS? This is very sweet and very touching and shows that yes, indeed he really did not change in his interactions with others as he did with us when he was in front of the camera on his set through the airwaves. Mr. Rogers is the real deal.

And let's not forget that he was ahead of the curve in tackling subjects many adults would have deemed as far too ticklish or sensitive to even consider presenting to young children: death, divorce, even political assassination. What children's show in our more 'advanced' age would take on these subjects in an honest manner, posited so that young children could understand them and have the fear factor diminished?
Fred Rogers was a true pioneer, the more so in that he didn't blare a trumpet about his pioneering. He just went in, identified the issues, and quietly set about addressing them. His work often slipped under the radar precisely because of that quiet manner, and it may be that audiences are only now starting to appreciate the full worth of what he was doing--now that we have such a large and poignant absence of anyone else in children's programming doing it today.

Yeah, he was one of a kind and we will never get anything like him again because of how unique he was. At least we have his legacy and huge body of work that is still around. I dunno if he was an inspiration for Barney but I really don't get all the hatred for him. "I love you, you love me.." I don't see one thing wrong with that message.

Hello there again fellow forum friend WarrenPeace !!
That is a most wonderful YouTube clip
and although I have watched this one before
I always enjoy it every single time I do view it .
Mr. Rogers always knew just the right words to say
and expressed these to us all so perfectly
that it always gave me comfort to here him speak
especially on this family friendly old school program as well ( also thought he sang really well on this show too ) .
I so agree he was definitely a unique gentleman
and we will never forget what he taught to us all a balance of peace , understanding , and friendship .
Thanks so much WarrenPeace for sharing this fine video and for all your awesome replies here too .

Loved Mr. Rogers and his cool Neighborhood. I was a kid in the 70s, all those PBS shows were a huge part of my childhood. I was in tears the other night watching the 50th Anniversary of Sesame Street on PBS, I learned the alphabet, numbers, how to tell time, all of that from Sesame Street.
I was always nervous Mr. Rogers would forget to feed his fish each episode, but he always came through.
