James Gunn’s tweets were pretty much your typical edgelord humor that was all the rage in the 2000s and the early 2010s. Well, that doesn’t make it okay with me. I get it, but at the same time. I had a friend who lived in NYC when 9/11 happened and I also have a little boy. So while it may have been “all the rage” it’s not funny for me. The rape jokes are too far. For me. Just because a lot of people do it, doesn’t make it right. Read some of his old jokes. I have a dark sense of humour myself, so I'm not easily offended by references to dark subject matter. He goes a bit overboard with it though. The rape stuff in particular is icky. He's clearly only messing around though and I wouldn't crucify someone over making tasteless jokes. Reminds me of one of my favourite shows - South Park. I love their politically incorrect humour, but occasionally they do take things a little too far.

This isn't an April fools joke he's talking about how a movie made him want to fuck a little boy sitting next to him even as a joke that's horrific and criminal. Jesus Christ you people. Do any of you have children?

Do any of you have children? That's a pretty sick joke alright. I'm not gonna dispute that. Still, have you ever watched South Park or some of those other adult animations? That type of humour (though more cleverly presented) is a regular feature of those shows and has been for decades at this stage.

I know I'm supposed to be chilling with the personal shots, but I can't help but think this has less to do with the tweets themselves and more with his MCU background, as per your intense Whedon hatred. The Spartans were a bunch of pedophiles. Do you like Snyder/300 any less for glamorizing them? I know how it looks, but I’m not being like that. I honestly can’t support someone who makes jokes about people dying in a massive terrorist attack, or AIDS, or raping people while they are asleep etc. I worked at a Child Advocacy Center for 2 years dealing with kids who have been sexually abused and then I worked as a counselor at a prison with pedophiles. It’s not funny. Humour is hugely subjective though. You've obviously had a lot of experience dealing with terrible cases and I completely 100% understand why this type of humour is offensive and horrifying to you. Totally justified. Many, many people would doubtless feel the same as you do. That said, there are those who do respond well to edgy, controversial comedy that focusses on taboo topics and displays shock value. I don't personally find those tweets funny, but there are certainly instances of that kind of offensive comedy being tackled quite well. I'm gonna end up sounding like a plug for the show, but again I'll refer to South Park, which deals with all of those taboo subjects and does so in a manner that - while it would be offensive to many - is very, very funny.

It was a stupid tweet, and at the time nobody really knew how to use twitter or comprehended what they were doing every time they tweeted something out, but this was a guy who worked for Troma, it was his job to be edgy, outrageous and against the grain. I also feel the tweet is more a joke about the phony machismo and homoeroticism of action movies, which was taken to extreme lengths in the Expendables series than it was a joke about pedophilia. He's acknowledged the tweet as bad, he's changed his behavior and grown as a person and that should be worth something. As for the Suicide Squad trailer, I'm a big fan of Guardians of the Galaxy but this one didn't really do much for me.
