Just finished watching this again, and am always amazed at how wonderful this film is. I didn't see it until ten years after it was first out there, mainly because I thought it was the movie most talked about that didn't live up to the hype. But it did! And it does! And it will continue to! 10/10
(let the detractors begin:)

I didn't see this the whole way through until fairly recently. It's really good and I was worried about the length but the film is paced so well.

There have been several movies & mini-series that have featured the sinking of the Titanic...
While Titanic (1997) is definitely one of the best depictions of the story, many of the others are great too...
Of course some of the newer ones feature more accurate portrayals of Titanic's final moments, because we have learned new things since 1997...
I think "A Night to Remember" (1958 film) still remains the best film for it's realist telling of it's passengers and crew, and doesn't involve fictional characters...
However, out of all the different portrayals that have been told on screen, I do think that Titanic (1997) features the best scene involving the collision with the Iceberg...
Those visuals, combined with the fantastic score...
Well, I still get that "On the edge of my seat" excitement, of waiting for the great ship to start turning in "hopefully" avoiding the iceberg collision, after all these years... Even knowing that it won't, even before seeing the film for the first time... Yeah, that really says something...
James Cameron really knew what he was doing when he filmed that scene. It's timeless.

I liked the movie, but it helped out my dating life in college tremendously. I went and saw it at least a few times all with different dates. Great times and memories. Pass the popcorn

I'm one of those detractors. It's ambitious and well made on a technical level, but I didn't get much else out of it, story or character wise and didn't find it particularly interesting visually apart from of few of the more spectacular moments.

I never hated it. I actually think it's a really good film.

It was wonderful to see the re-creation of the great ship and the disaster but overall the film is only so-so with me. Ted Kennedy sat one row behind me in the theater.

Must have seen it ten times by now and still can't believe Di Caprio wasn't nominated for an Oscar.

I still haven't "really" watched it. I've watched it in pieces, and the only time all the way through I was pretty distracted.
I need to take a night and watch all of it with all of my attention. I remember virtually nothing outside of the iconic moments everyone knows.

It was cool on the big screen. On the small screen, not as much.
Titanic forever associated with my wife's sweet but bubbleheaded friend, Shannon. We were all out at a party the night before we were to go see Titanic. I mentioned it and my Friend Rick said "the ship sinks" and I played it up that he wrecked the movie for us. Shannon got pissed because she really thought he spoiled it.
Really sweet girl. but good god. She gave me one of the biggest laughs of my life. She took off her glasses, looked at me and asked if I had a small screwdriver because she "had a screw loose".

Watched it on the big screen on a school tour back in 1998. The final hour is suitably epic and extremely well directed. Classic Cameron in that regard. I wasn't as enthusiastic about the love story, but can't deny that it was well-handled overall. I don't love it, but it's an entertaining (if rather overlong - could have trimmed the middle down a bit) disaster movie.
8/10

One other thought about this film, Billy Zane should have been a much bigger star after this. He was my favorite actor in the film. I’ve read that he had or was going through a divorce at the time so he ended up doing a bunch of B grade films after this but wow, what a missed opportunity for us viewers to have not seen him do more important films.

This film is timeless. Amazing acting, story, direction, cinematography, etc...
It’s Cameron’s Masterpiece. His Mona Lisa.

He was excellent in “Tombstone” and “Titanic” I agree, he should have been a superstar. Either he had a terrible agent, or he was typecast as a villain and wanted to do “non-villain” projects, which lead to B roles? Idk.
