Surprised to see such a weak turnout. Most estimates I read suggested between 40-45 million

It fell 80M fri to Fri, and total domestic is probably going to be $80M.

Can china save it?. Could close with a 250 million or less worldwide. Far less than Prometheus' 400 million. So much for Ridley and his cocky statements that he is gonna make 3 more sequels. Maybe Fox will slash the budget with another 30 million lol. Biggest embarressment is that it will close with a domestic total less than ALIEN and ALIENS. movies that are 32 and 39 years older!!!!!!

Hm...I saw a youtube clip about: why did King Arthur bomb, and one given reason was the strong competition - Guardians a weak before, Alien a weak after....but all three movie either disappointed or became massive flops.
Did each one canibalise each other, or does the people get tired of franchises or Hollywood blockbuster...an other given reason was the "golden age" of TV.

Will make 370 domestically. Alien Covenant had a decent opening. With 36 million and good word of mouth the movie could have easily made 120 million domestically. But the movie was strange. Didn't pleased Prometheus but the Alien fans too. I dont like what Ridley did to Prometheus with this movie and the Alien fans dont like what he did with Alien in this movie ao the word of mouth is really bad. Arthur was not a bad movie, people actually really liked it. But the marketing was shit.

The divisive feedback from fans didn't help it in its domestic opening.

Audiences really hated Covenant. No surprises. Just another re hash. Yet again a crew sniffs after a mysterious ping and sticks their nose in a deadly larva pod. Are our astronauts learning? God no. And if the audience expected a different plot, we're not learning, either.

I liked Alien Covenant. I would rather see it a second time than Wonder Woman or Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I thought it was the best Alien movie since Aliens. Apparently, I'm in a minority. Everyone would rather see movies featuring such intellectual dialogue like "I have famously huge turds."
