John Carpenter's The Thing is the closest to the original story by John W. Campbell. And that's a good thing! He definitely captured the mood and atmosphere of the story. Carpenter's version is my pick by far.

The Thing From Another World. But the 1982 movie is also excellent and the 2011 film is also very good.
