9/11 is tomorrow where I live.
But I was 15, school hadn't started yet so I was at home. I was playing computer and my mom said to come check the TV. The two towers were already burning. I saw the Pentagon and the buildings collapsing live.

Sleeping.
Just started working nights. My first wife had gone to visit her mother. I woke up a little after 10. Noticed about a zillion messages on my answering machine. Listened to the first, a friend yelling "Can you see what is happening?". Looked out my window, nothing happening. So I made coffee, red the paper on the deck (it was a perfect day, weatherwise) and turned on the TV at about 10:30. Right when the South Tower went down.

I was only my way to work as a manager of a video department of a local grocery store, when I turned on the radio to hear that the first tower had been hit, by what was believed to have been a small private plane...
I thought, I'll turn on the TV when I get there to see what is happening... It was already on...
Just a couple minutes into my shift... The second plane hit...
All of us were in shock, and customers were coming in to the store to talk about it...
We all know that it wasn't an accident, but when the plane hit the Pentagon, our worst fears were realized... That we were under attack... and we wondered what was next...
I came to believe that the towers would collapse, and that the second one, which was damaged further down, would be the first to fall... I really wish I had been wrong...
The rest of the day, was just a clusterfuck of nothing but confusion, rumor, and misinformation...
When I went home in the late afternoon, motorists were lining up down the street at gas stations to top off their cars, and all the stations were price gouging their customers...
One of the worst days I have ever experienced.

Watching West Wing (it was late Tuesday night) - ad came on and I channel surfed to see the first tower on fire.
It was a bright clear day in NY so I couldn't figure how a plane could accidently hit the building.
About 2 minutes later I saw the second plane slam into the other tower. Knew it was no accident.

I was an altar server in morning mass. At the point in the mass where the Monsignor asks if any one in the congregation knows someone they’d like to offer prayers to, one old lady said ‘I’d like to pray for the people on New York’. I remember thinking that that was pretty random. After mass ended, my dad picked up to get back home and get ready for school and he told me what happened. I figured that old lady probably saw the first plane hit the tower before mass started which is why she offered up her prayer. We spent the rest of the day at school just watching the news.

I was just north of DC. I later learned that Mohammed Atta used my gym but he did not look familiar.

I was driving in to work at the animal shelter I worked for as a fundraiser for operating costs. The other fundraiser, there for a capitol campaign, said we may as well go home because all fundraising for causes that did not involve this horrible tragedy would soon come to an end.
I left the job a few months later.
I remember being shocked, stunned and sickened by what I was hearing on my car radio. Later, the TV images would haunt me for years. It is still hard to watch, so I am not watching any of the ceremonies today.

I was working overnights at Toys R Us. I was woken by the family arguing in front of the TV and had to go see what the hell the hysteria was about. 30 minutes later the first tower went down.
In the middle of that I got a call from my boss saying work was cancelled that night. Went back to work the next day and my floor boss said that because we lost a day of work we have to work twice as hard to catch up.
Still think it was pretty shitty that they were more worried about their bottom line and sales than what was going on in the world. But now TRU is long gone and nobody cares.

I was at school, or at least inside my mom's car on the way there. It was a normal school day, but our principal called us into the auditorium and informed us what happened. I don't think I understood the gravitas of the tragedy, but I remember seeing local news reports of it that very same night.

At my desk at work. The building’s internet servers became overloaded and we couldn’t follow what was happening so I got my portable 2” TV out and almost immediately saw the first tower collapse.
