Like the first Halloween II, this one takes place the same night and much of the action is at Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. Beyond some exceptionally brutal kills, the film is lost in an eye rolling commentary on mob mentality. Michael’s ability to take punishment and dish it out makes you wonder if he was trained in the dark arts at Smith’s Grove. Going back to the first sequel, Jamie Lee Curtis is again confined mostly to a hospital bed. No resolution is reached, which is really not surprising given we know another movie is on the way; seems a filler episode before the finale. The most interesting characters are actually Big John and Little John, a gay couple who manage to bring a little bit of humor and humanity to the movie.

I watched about 45 minutes so far and I'm bored as hell. I'll finish it tomorrow.

In fact, I'll likely hold off until next October, but that's one hell of a statement when you consider the quality of some of the more subpar sequels in this series.

It feels like they were going to make this the final film.
Then, they decided to make it a trilogy. So they took the first half of their planned movie, stretched it out. And ended it in the middle of a movie. So the actual finale would be in the next movie.
Added some side characters like the Doctor and Nurse, the gay couple Little/Big John… etc… to fill runtime.
To have a mob of Myers survivors get killed by Michael after that build up seemed lazy. I thought this was supposed to be normal human Michael?
“Halloween” (1978) “Halloween” (2018) “Halloween Kills” (2021)
More grounded in reality? Then they stab the f__k out of him, beat him with baseball bats, shoot him in the street.
Also, they make him a moron. So, he’s not chasing Laurie, his only motivation is to go back to his ancestral home to stare out of his sisters bedroom at his own reflection?
Wouldn’t it have been better if he caused the mob to split up? Take them out systematically one by one. I thought that’s what was going to happen when he killed the first group at the park.
And the idea that Myers is turning the town into monsters. That could have been cool. They turn on each other. Start yelling “it’s your fault this man died” “no it’s yours” maybe they start beating each other up. Maybe people get trampled to death in the mob. No, they just propose the idea, and abandon it immediately.
I really think this film suffered from trying to make two movies instead of one. They probably found out late in the writing stages of development they would make “Halloween Ends” so they cut it into two parts and added way too much filler to make two movies instead of one good movie. Probably didn’t want to make a great ending. Only to have another film come out. So they didn’t re-write it, they made it “part I” and “part II” like “Mocking Jay” or “Breaking Dawn” or the last Harry Potter. But didn’t call it that.
The ending was so disappointing. How he just gets up and takes out an entire mob? One by one? How? Why don’t they fight him together like they did earlier? Why don’t they chop his head off?
You know those old serials back in the old days? The guy fall off a cliff, “to be continued” then the next week he survives, but they retconned the whole thing. It doesn’t make sense how he survived… that’s the ending to this movie. I would have preferred if the mob split into groups and it was Michael taking out the small groups one by one in the shadows.

That was stupid. Basically they all say "He's out to kill, that's what he does" And for 1 hour and half we see Michael stab, strangle, bash heads or basically just kill people. Doesn't bring much or does much for the franchise. Laurie doesn't do much either.
5/10 since it was still mildly entertaining.

5/10 since it was still mildly entertaining. Agreed. It feels like Laurie just sits in a hospital while Michael kills everyone and she comes to the realization that he doesn’t care about her. He’s not coming for her. He just wants to go home. So weird. The beginning was good. I liked the part where he escapes the fire and takes out the firefighters. The park was okay. Then, it goes downhill after the mob in the Hospital scene.

He's only "normal human Michael" in the Rob Zombie movies. There's nothing normal about him in the original film, that's the point. That said, turning into Quicksilver seems inconsistent with his established abilities. Ending with him getting a beatdown Death Proof-style would have been kinda awesome, but I guess they were worried about making The Shape look like a pussy. Still, how he gets the upper hand on that mob was preposterous. Them he teleports into his sister's room surrounded by cops. Come on.

And ended it in the middle of a movie. So the actual finale would be in the next movie. I agree completely. I enjoyed the movie but looking back it definitely felt like the first half of a movie that just kind of tails off into a cliffhanger so that they could tell the second half of the movie later.

Aside from a marketing POV I never understood why they completely ignored every single sequel. Halloween II is a perfectly fine follow up and so is H20, albeit in the vein of Scream etc but to its benefit. Halloween (2018) could've used the same basic storyline with some tweaks here and there while just ignoring Rhymesurrection and the film would've been much much better. But no, let's ignore everything that came before so we can start from almost scratch and make tons of crappy sequels again. Well, following H20 would run it into the same issue that Resurrection had: how do you bring back Michael post-decapitation? For all intents and purposes, H2018 basically is a sequel to H20, with Laurie now a hardened survivalist bugging her Gen X child that can't stand her. The sister connection was scrapped, only to end with a showdown against Laurie and her kin anyways.

Bored pensioners past their sell by who think they can do something new or show the youngsters how it's done thus them making equally inferior reboots and sequels too that are even worse.

Because other than that, not much happens.
The firefighters part was nice indeed.
