Wyatt Russell on potentially reprising his role as John Walker/U.S. Agent. TEXT: Speaking about your past in the MCU, I read a few weeks ago that you still hadn’t received the call from Marvel for Thunderbolts. Has that changed yet?
"....No, I’m still waiting. I know they’re doing it. I know that they’re planning it. I gotta imagine that there’s something in there for me. But yeah, until you get that true actual prompt, like, ‘Okay, this is your start date. And this is when you’re coming, and this is when you rent your house, and this is when logistically you need to start setting up to do these things.’ That’s when I shift my mindset to going to do that, you know? Other than that, before you get that call, things can change on a dime; you never know." www.thedigitalfix.com/lodge-49/wyatt-russell-interview

How 'Secret Invasion' could influence the Thunderbolts being formed.

Honestly the lineup made me wish Marvel didn't kill as many villains in their past films. Thunderbolts could use a better variety in skills/powers.
I mean Christ 3 of them are super soldiers.

I know the following characters weren’t on the comic team, but imagine if the MCU version had Loki, Scarlet Witch, Vulture, and Killmonger. That would be a movie worth watching!

Maybe they'll kill everyone off except Yelena and Bucky and that's what happens in the end.

I mean Christ 3 of them are super soldiers. yeah, I think it’ll be more about personality dichotomy than skill dichotomy. Like in CAWS, Widow Bucky Cap Crossbones and Falcon have varying tricks but are mostly just military H2H specialists with small firearms. It’s how they got along (or didn’t in Bucky/Crossbones’s case) and how their character conflicts made the movie interesting. I’m excited more for how a Red Guardian and a Taskmaster or a Ghost and a batshit US agent coexist than whether or not we’ll see anyone throwing trucks around or shooting fireballs

Majority of the lineup are scrappers with very similar skillsets. You don't have your standard brick (which would have been Abomination). No true long range fighter, nobody with heavy arsenal, not even a true strategic genius (which should have been Zemo). I'm surprised Agent 13 isn't here. In fact when I think about it, only Ghost has a truly unique powerset in the group. The rest of them are just variations of the same thing.

If they had titled this Secret Avengers or something like that...it would feel right at home. Im simultaneously excited for the movie because I love this collection of characters...and also disappointed because we aren't getting a more classic Thunderbolt vibe. I was looking forward to the possibility of classic Thunderbolt anchors like Mach, Fixer, Moonstone or Songbird showing up...and who knows, maybe they will, but I wouldn't want them terribly forced in just for a cameos sake.
Again Im very excited to see this movie...but Id also look forward to a true Thunderbolt story.

She makes the most sense but I could see there being a lot of push and pull from others. Like US Agent might want to take that mantle and Im sure Red Guardian will have a hard time taking orders from his 'daughter'. Plus Winter Soldier is essentially an Avenger so while I don't think he would want to lead I could see others trying to rally around him. Don't know what to expect from Ghost and Taskmaster but I kind of hope they develop a kinship.

Now that he's gotten his mind control corrected, he's actually the most compassionate and most heroic character here. Heck, he might even be the most mentally balanced. He also has a massive experience advantage over everyone, especially when it comes to fighting superhuman threats. Making Yelena the leader over Bucky makes about as much sense as making Natasha the leader of the Avengers instead of Steve Rogers. Besides, Bucky has been a side character since Phase 1. He deserves the a chance at the spotlight.

If they'd have gone with anyone else Id have thought it strange but it really feels to me like it will probably be a Yelena Bucky one two punch. Kind of how Cap and Tony shared the reigns a lot of the time. I don't think this will overshadow Buckys character at all. I think the Thunderbolts will focus on him plenty.

Because TFATWS was supposed to be co-led by Falcon and Bucky but it turned out to be mostly a Falcon show with Bucky being relegated to sidekick once again. The MCU has been giving Bucky the short end of the stick since Civil War. Let's hope this show treats him better, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's pushed to the background once again. On a side note, I would have much rather had Moonknight or Echo here instead of Red Guardian.
