Prior to the 1980s, it was common for soap operas to be erased after broadcast. The production companies did not foresee the value of keeping tapes of the shows. Some scattered episodes usually survive, but complete runs are rare.
So, which pre-1980s soaps DID have all or nearly all of their episodes kept after broadcast? I know of the following: "Days of Our Lives" exists in its entirety "Autumn Affair", an Australian soap which ran for 156 episodes from 1958-1959, has most episode surviving "The Story of Peter Grey", an early 1960s Australian soap which ran for 156 episodes, has most episodes surviving "Coronation Street" exists in its entirety. Only a couple sketches done for the "All Star Comedy Carnival" specials are lost.
Any others I overlooked?
EDIT: I forget about "Dark Shadows". Only one episode is missing (and the soundtrack exists for the missing episode).

The Doctors, a U.S. soap that ran from 1963-1982, is being rerun currently on Retro TV. Apparently, 4865 of the total 5280 episodes are available for syndication.
I think a lot of the Procter & Gamble soaps were erased/not saved until the late 70s. This includes Guiding Light, As the World Turns, The Edge of Night, Search for Tomorrow and Another World.
I know your thread is about pre-1980 soaps, but I still thought I'd mention that the shortlived AW spinoff, Texas (1980-1982), exists in its entirety.

I read somewhere that the Cordays have saved every episode of Days. I don't know if it's true. One would think they'd use more flashbacks if they have the original tapes. I'd like to point out that on a recent Y & R, which I never watch, I tuned in just because no other soaps were on and they were replaying an episode from 1984, Victor and Nikki's wedding. The sets, clothing, atmosphere were so exquisite and I remembered that all soaps used to look like that in the 80s. Tons of extras, unlike weddings now with 5 people in attendance. Possibly Y & R saved their tapes too or at least some of them
