So, I’ve started Season 2 of Lucifer on DVD at long last and watched the first two episodes. Re: the first episode... I continue to enjoy Lucifer and Chloe’s dynamic. They had some fun banter... Lucifer got his usual amount of amusing lines... But I think Lauren German is also quite good at the ‘comedic moments’...when they let Chloe have them, that is. Her exasperation at Lucifer’s antics helps keep them from getting annoying, but I especially loved when she tasered the woman who was about to off Lucifer (much to his embarrassment), and then Lucifer decided to give her a little more tasering for good measure (Chloe’s covering her face with her hand reaction was quite funny, I thought). It was also neat to get a condensed version of Lucifer’s history with his mum. Yes, it was probably a bit ‘over-simplified’, but I’d take that over convoluted any day. I also didn’t mind the introduced of Aimee Garcia’s Ella character. I know her previously from the later seasons of Dexter as Batista's sister, but it’s nice she’s getting a neat role in this show. I also find it interesting that she has her ‘faith’ and yet converses with the Devil himself. I wasn’t expecting it to be Lucifer/Tom Ellis who was singing at the end, but he sounded pretty good. The best part, though, was the introduction of Tricia Helfer as Lucifer’s mum. While brings me to the second episode... Tricia Helfer was a riot as Lucifer’s mother (who took over the body of a murdered woman named Charlotte – so I guess she’ll just be referred to as that from now on). Her trying to understand humans was funny... Also amusing was her continually mentioning her new body’s ‘exceptional ass’ and Lucifer’s uncomfortableness with it. I really enjoyed his interaction with her. But I knew I loved this character the moment she headbutted Maze when she was giving some annoying speech about ‘weak spots’ as she was just about to get off on torturing Lucifer’s mum (despite him telling her not to). As someone who isn’t a Maze fan, I enjoyed ‘Charlotte’ cutting her off/shutting her up with a headbutt. I guess the speech ‘Charlotte’ gave Lucifer at the end made it seem like she wasn’t so bad after all...but that smile up at the sky (and presumably God) suggested otherwise. Hmmmm... Anyway, I’m very pleased about Tricia Helfer joining the show. She’s brought something ‘new’/’fresh’ and it’s delightful.

Is anyone watching season 4? I am. Currently on episode 3 or 4. I don't remember because I had to stop in the middle of the episode and I haven't been able to watch the rest yet. I'm enjoying the season so far.

Just finished episode 4. Much as I want to binge watch, I'm trying to pace myself and watch it with my daughter and husband "fresh".

ok. anyone want to talk ending?? Without spoiling too much, if possible, how was it? Was it satisfying?/Did it feel like a conclusion? Or is there likely to be a Season 5? I still have yet to watch my Season 3 DVDs, but I'm holding off so that once I finish them, it won't feel like such a long wait for Season 4 to be released here.

as it was the end, no not satisfying. Also, a short season, only 10 eps. And I'm not counting the 2 that were released last year to shut us all up. There apparently was a semi gag thing about having a certain number of signatures to ensure a season 5. Not sure if that has happened although my daughter tells me there's a lot of movement online.
It got a little snarkier than usual (a lot like season 1) and it seemed that everyone was trying to resolve things with themselves. There are a few surprises that I don't want to give away for you.
If they don't renew, it ended with almost everything resolved. If they do renew, it can go on from where it ended.
Did I answer enough or did I keep it too vague? Also, some great Maze fights. Yes!!!

There is a season 6 coming and season 5 (1st half) is on Netflix Thanks for the news, mmexis. It's been over a year since I started Season 2 according to my post upthread^ (I imagine I finished watching that season roughly a week or two later). According to another post of mine above^, I had gotten Season 3 on DVD by May. It's taken me until NOW to get around to watching them. I just started the third season tonight and watched the first three episodes. Episode 1 I was glad they gave us a recap of last season, as I'd forgotten some things. I remembered Lucifer's mum played by Tricia Helfer and him sending her to wherever, and I vaguely recalled him waking up semi-naked in the desert, but I'd forgotten about him having his wings back, I think. I was amused that he didn't know Chloe's badge number, but remembered her cup size. Less amusing was Ella. I get that she's supposed to be the 'funny'/'quirky' character, and Aimee Garcia is good in the role, but sometimes she's a bit much and I find her attempts at being 'funny' fall rather flat. She also needs to learn to respect personal space. Hugging Amenadiel upon first meeting him? I assume that was another attempt at showing how 'funny'/'quirky' she was, but it was just as well everyone seems to accept her doing that and being okay with it (I will admit it was worth it just for Amenadiel's reaction). Again, I don't hate the character of Ella. She's alright...in small doses. Try not to go overboard with her energy/enthusiasm, show. Just take it down a notch...or two. Even more amusing was Amenadiel attempting to understand Lucifer's communicating via emojis. I've never used emojis in texts (I don't really text that much) and would be equally as hopeless as Amenadiel in deciphering communication via emoji only. We were introduced to Tom Welling's character, Pierce, in this episode...and it appeared he was doing his best to out-douche 'Detective Douche', Dan. Firstly, there was his avoiding shaking hands thing. Then he was a dick to Dan (repeatedly getting his last name wrong? Really??), dismissive of Chloe and I'm not sure what he made of Lucifer exactly. I had seen pictures of Welling from the show back when the season aired and was a bit surprised to see how much he'd aged since Smallville finished. It's not like he looks terrible or anything, it's just...well...noticeable. But I guess quite a bit of time had passed since SV ended (though it doesn't really feel like that long ago), so it makes sense. Here's hoping he becomes less 'douchey' as the season continues. I thought the effects team did a decent job with Lucifer's wings (I've seen worse). Though it got me wondering what happens when Lucifer unfurls them with his clothes on. Do they just somehow magically go through the backs of his shirts/jackets, or do they tear holes through them (I somehow doubt it, as we never hear tearing sounds when he does it. Also, he'd go through a lot of shirts if that were the case). I wasn't really sure why he hated having his wings back so much, since I seemed to recall him being very sensitive about his cut off wings back in early Season 1 (I think that's when they were stolen). It was also frustrating that he didn't use the opportunity of having definitive proof of what he was when he had the chance. He could've shown Chloe his wings and that would've put an end to her not believing him about all the 'Devil' stuff and whatnot. But, no, he didn't do that. Instead he cut them off, then tried showing her his 'Devil Face', but it didn't work. Apparently he regained his wings, but got his Devil Face stolen. People seem to give Chloe a hard time for not believing Lucifer when he tries to tell her what he is, but she's not watching the show she's in. It makes sense that she's practical and only believes in things that can be proven. It might seem 'annoying' to some that she got upset with Lucifer when it seemed to her like he was ready to tell her the truth but nothing actually happened, though they should give her a break. Given what she's been presented with (or rather the lack thereof), it's understandable that she runs out of patience with him when it seems like he's going to be sincere with her. She has no way of knowing that he has been honest this whole time. The photo of Lucifer after he'd been (intentionally) kidnapped was quite funny. I'd almost forgotten how amusing this show could be. I needed this, as it was some relief from what I'd been watching lately (ie. shows that were more depressing than anything). Episode 2 Others might not appreciate what Lauren German does in the show as Chloe Decker, playing the 'straight man' (or rather 'straight woman') to Tom Ellis' larger than life character of Lucifer, but I do. Her reactions are half the reason why the things Lucifer says are so amusing. She's very deadpan a lot of the time. Every now and again, though, she gets to 'loosen up' a bit and show her comedic skills. I was particularly amused by her telling Lucifer to stop saying 'Sinnerman' (complete with her imitating Lucifer's British accent). Speaking of the Sinnerman, I'm glad the show addressed what his name sounded like, as I'd been thinking exactly the same thing. I also wondered if the Sinnerman may have been Pierce. He's definitely shady, and I remember you telling me he was more than human, HirundoRustica (way back when you were watching this season ). It seemed this episode tried to fit in as many penis jokes (big and 'micro') as it could. I lost count of how many there were (though it was fun when Chloe knew Lucifer would to to town with all the micro-penis jokes he could think of. She even looked mildly amused herself). The funniest scene, though, had to be the scene with Lucifer and the puppets. Firstly, it was a joke that went by pretty quickly (and consequently may have gotten lost in amongst all the others), but it highly amused me when one of the puppets called Lucifer 'Doctor Who'. Then there was the part with him shoving the big one he referred to as 'Fraggle Rock', him stealing one of the puppets, then talking through the puppet and, finally, shooting through the puppet (unintentionally). The only thing that could've made the whole puppet stuff even more funny was if we'd seen Puppet Angel from the 'Smile Time' episode of Angel in the background somewhere at one point. Other stuff going on in this episode involved Amenadiel and Dr. Linda cleaning up after Lucifer and disposing of the pile of wings he'd cut off (since they kept growing back). I'm glad Amenadiel burned them, as it would've been stupid to just toss them in garbage bags and throw them in a dumpster (some hobo would've no doubt found them). I can't say I was that interested in all their discussion of this 'test' God was supposedly putting Amenadiel through, though. One thing I'd forgotten about the show was that Lucifer did 'favours' and granting people anything they wanted, so when it was brought up at the end of this episode, I had no memory of it being a thing he did. Episode 3 I'm well aware that this is considered an 'unpopular' opinion, but I didn't really miss Maze at all, as I feel she's a bit of a comic book character at times (she 'sexy', 'bad'ass' and...that's about it). I do like that she's seemingly 'softened' (at least slightly) towards Chloe, and I felt bad for Chloe being so worried about Maze despite the fact that she really didn't need to be (since Maze is a demon and can more than handle herself). I didn't really care about Maze's storyline this episode, as it meant less Lucifer, less Lucifer/Chloe and no Amenadiel at all (actually...that last one didn't bother me so much). The funniest part of the episode, for me, was Lucifer playfully touching Chloe's nose and her reaction to it. Anyway, those^ are the episodes of Season 3 that I've watched so far. I'm already enjoying this season of the show more than I've enjoyed the last few seasons of other shows I've been watching recently. Here's hoping the fun continues with the rest of the season. I'm looking forward to the return of Tricia Helfer on the screen, as it's annoyed me that she's been credited as a 'regular' in these first three episodes, but hasn't actually appeared as yet).

Well, I watched the next three episodes from Season 3 of Lucifer on DVD tonight. Episode 4 I now feel I was maybe slightly too harsh towards the character of Ella when watching the first episodes this season. I still maintain that sometimes she can be a bit much, but other times I do find her actually amusing. One example being in this episode when she seemed to think that Pierce being a dick to Chloe meant he had the hots for her...complete with dirty mimes. Also amusing was Lucifer teaching former delinquents trying to turn over a new leaf how to sell drugs and him getting high (in more ways than one). It was kind of fun seeing him refuse to believe that any of them could be reformed, and as always Lauren German's reactions as Chloe to Lucifer's antics were quite funny. His slogans he came up with for the aspiring drug dealers were also humourous. Less effective in the 'humour' department was Amenadiel trying to act like Lucifer around women after getting a pep talk from his brother. The humour seemed a bit to 'obvious' (he just goes up to one woman and says "Guess what? You get to have sex with me!". I think he's been interacting with humans enough by now to know that would never fly (and he totally deserves getting a drink thrown in his face for it too). It seems that sometimes the show struggles to come up with things for Amenadiel. In this instance he was written as a bit too 'clueless' (for lack of a better word). Still, at least it's not as boring as back in Season 1 when his sole purpose seemed to be to tell Lucifer to go (back) to Hell. So...yay progress? Regarding Clark Kent Pierce, he still seemed to be a dick to Chloe (and she said as much to Ella), but it was an interesting dynamic - having someone who didn't seem as infatuated with her as Lucifer was. Still, I was glad that he eventually showed that he wasn't quite as much of a dick as he'd first appeared by saving Chloe from getting shot (she really needs to wear her bulletproof vest more considering how many times she's shot or almost shot). It appeared that he didn't think as little of her as she'd thought he did, as he even explained the reason he didn't want to give her the union rep position she wanted was because he couldn't 'lose' her to such a boring job (though apparently he had no such qualms about losing Dan to such a mundane job, since he gave it to him and said with a smile "You earned it, buddy." - poor Dan). I'm not sure what Pierce is, but I'm now thinking he's like Lucifer and wasn't counting on that bullet harming him but like with Lucifer, Chloe makes him vulnerable? I may be way off, of course. Episode 5 FINALLY Tricia Helfer returned in this episode (seriously, being credited in four episodes as a regular, none of which she actually appeared in??). Of course, she wasn't playing Lucifer's mum anymore, but rather the human Charlotte whose body Lucifer's mum had taken over/possessed last season before leaving it in the season final to go to her own specially-created-for-her personal universe or whatever). Probably the funniest moment of the episode was Lucifer's reaction to Charlotte snogging him (not remembering what had happened to her and thinking they'd had a 'thing'). Though I imagine it would've been a tough job for Tom Ellis to act like kissing Tricia Helfer was the last thing he wanted to be doing. After that^ humourous scene, we got some serious stuff from her and I enjoyed getting to know the human Charlotte more. She was obviously going through a lot, having 'lost time' and having these different types of relationships with people she didn't really know (and poor Dan, feeling ignored by her because she couldn't recall what they'd been together. At least they came to an understanding by the end of the episode). Welcome back, Charlotte Richards indeed. The other funny stuff in the episode was Chloe's whole 'swear jar' thing she had going with her daughter, Trixie, and Lucifer teaching her swear word 'loopholes'. Episode 6 So, the episode began with Chloe's birthday (everyone at the precinct seemed to be pretty poor singers. They really needed Lucifer there who could actually hold a tune). Just as she was about to blow out the candle son her birthday cake, a stripper emerged from a much bigger fake cake and it was all Ella's doing. Chloe looked/sounded so sad and disappointed when Lucifer had to leave on her birthday. She didn't let it go, either, mentioning several times throughout the episode that it was her birthday. So she and Dr. Linda got drunk and drunk Chloe is quite humourous (glad to see the show give Lauren German the chance to show off her comedic chops). This episode also saw the return of Lucifer's 'wife' he married in Vegas, Candy. I remembered that happening last season, but had forgotten the circumstances which led to it. Luckily we got flashbacks showing how he came to marry her (though I still forgot what had Lucifer so mad at Chloe he went and did this, but through dialogue in this episode I figured out it must've been when he thought his father was using Chloe against him or whatever and that's why he left. Anyway, I think that's what happened. Hey, I watched Season 2 over a year ago and my memory isn't that great). I remember watching some other show where a character gave someone the bullet they'd been shot with and so Lucifer gifting Chloe with the bullet she'd shot him with (back in Season 1 I think it was?) reminded me of that. I liked seeing them have a nice scene together at the end of the episode. I want more of those.

Yeah I'm not a fan of Ella, the actress or the character. The character is poorly conceived and Aimee Garcia is a bad actress, imo.

At this point Ella's the only one who doesn't understand she's surrounding by celestial beings. She's also that dichotomy of naive and worldly. I thought she was great in the Vegas episode!

I struggled through season one and have made it into season two. It's not a bad show, but not what I was hoping for, I guess. It's too procedural for me, I don't usually watch those, with a few exceptions. It feels like Castle, if Castle was the Devil. I hear it gets more interesting so we'll see.

Well, I finally started Season 4 of Lucifer on DVD (though it didn't take nearly as long this time between me watching seasons as it did between Seasons 2 & 3). Just finished the Season 4 premiere episode 'Everything's Okay'. When the episode began with Lucifer singing Radiohead's 'Creep', I thought my DVD was glitching for a minute because it appeared as though the scene was flickering and I was seeing quick shots of things...but then it became apparent this was intentional. What was that all about exactly? I was miffed that they didn't pick up where last season's final ended, showing us what happened immediately after Chloe seeing Lucifer's Devil face. Instead we wasted time on Lucifer giving a bunch of cash and gold (as well as his trousers) to the guy I only vaguely recalled from the start of last season (if Lucifer hadn't referenced him, I wouldn't have remembered). I was annoyed by Maze pretty much immediately, since she was so flippant about betraying and trying to kill Lucifer last season. She reached an all-time high on the intolerable scale last season and now I just spend every moment she's onscreen wishing for her to be off it. Thankfully, things improved somewhat once Chloe finally showed up thanks to Lucifer's amusing reaction to her - ie. staring at her - as she seemed relatively at ease when around him (at first it seemed like she was simply ignoring him/pretending he wasn't there). They had me going for a minute in the later scene where Lucifer seemed to be revealing his true self to Ella, but then it became clear she still doesn't believe him (just like Chloe hadn't). I do wonder how long it'll take for her to learn the truth. I imagine either her or Dan will be the next to find out. Speaking of Dan, I see he's still smarting over Charlotte's death (*sniff* you will be missed on this show, Tricia Helfer!). Consequently, he and Lucifer have reverted to their old Season 1 dynamic, which is a tad disappointing since they'd seemed to make progress towards not disliking each other so much last season. While I understand Dan's attitude, I hope he's not just going to be grumpy the entire season. Doesn't make for fun viewing. And while Amenadiel still seems to have no real clear point on this show, at least he did a nice thing for Dan by managing to convince him Charlotte's in Heaven. I was pretty pissed off that not only was Chloe so forgiving of Maze's behaviour last season, but apparently so was Trixie. It annoyed me that Maze didn't even bother apologising to Chloe (what did Chloe do wrong exactly besides being someone Lucifer cared for? That's not her fault, yet Maze acts like it is). Hell, Chloe said "I'm sorry" to Maze, which was ridiculous. She doesn't owe her an apology. The supposedly 'badass' demon is actually just a very petty, jealous creature who only seemed to care about Trixie not hating her. She was forgiven WAY too easily for my taste. I'm hoping she'll be less annoying than she was last season, but I'm not holding my breath. The most interesting stuff in this first episode of the season was finding out what Chloe really thought of Lucifer after having seen his true self. She put up a valiant effort in disguising her feelings, acting like it didn't really bother her that much. They even had another nice piano scene near the end. But then came the reveal of what was actually going on with Chloe, as she went into a church, had a breakdown (good job by Lauren German there, who isn't given enough credit by a certain portion of the fandom) and was meeting up with a priest played by Graham McTavish (who I mainly knew as Dougal from Outlander). From their exchange, it sounds like he must've convinced her to play it cool so that Lucifer was unaware that they're going to attempt to...I'm not sure what exactly they think they can do to him, but I'm sure whatever their plan is, it isn't going to go well. I've already seen negative reactions to Chloe doing this, but people get so blinded by their love for the Lucifer character that they don't see she's reacting like any sane human being would. It might not be want we want to see her doing, but it's what any responsible person would (same with her lying to Maze about Trixie still being upset with her - it's just a parent wanting to keep her child safe from a DEMON. It's understandable). It was an interesting season premiere. I was surprised there were no F-bombs, though (I'd thought now that the show was on Netflix, they would let some drop. It almost seemed like it was going to happen at the start of the episode, but Lucifer was cut off mid-F-bomb by the show's title card/theme playing). Anyway, bring on the Inbar Lavi! I struggled through season one and have made it into season two. It's not a bad show, but not what I was hoping for, I guess. It's too procedural for me, I don't usually watch those, with a few exceptions. It feels like Castle, if Castle was the Devil. I hear it gets more interesting so we'll see. It took me a while to get into the show too, Lebowskidoo. I think it wasn't until I was a fair way into the series that I started really enjoying it (though there is some things that prevent me from truly loving it). I do think it gets 'better', though. Stick with it if you can.
