"First change the name of stupid Indian Cinema board from Cineman to Cinema. Why is this only board to have wrong spelling?" It's not the only misspelling on this website. But don't worry, they're just teething problems. Everything will get fixed or sorted out... Eventually. "Indian Cinema" corrected. Thanks for pointing that out as I'm a bit OCD about these things. What else did I misspell? please change it to Indian Chinaman. ty

Another name for this site? I'm going to suggest "LateHobson". Nod wisely if you get the reference...

"What else did I misspell?" BIOGRAPHY. You missed out on the "P". There's also another one, but I'm having trouble finding it again. I know what you mean about being a bit OCD... Thanks. Corrected. Please let me know if you see any more.

If the URL doesn't have to change, then just call it the Internet Movie Discussion Boards (IMDB). The acronym works and it's different than what the other (dumb) IMDb stands for. That's a great idea, as well as your other about having a backup site. Thanks.

I'd create the backup really as soon as possible. IMDb definitely knows about this place by now. I guarantee they don't like it either.

Internet Movie Board ( IMB) as an option.
The suggestion for a community vote is excellent.

I like good defiance and good resistance myself, but seeing as how those imdb people have a really strong infrastructure backing them up (financial and otherwise), I wouldn't be surprised if they already have "their people" scheming against this site; steps ahead. Maybe try to make "an example" of admin to discourage others, pinpoint him or something, 'single him out', so to speak. Maybe they'd already planned in advance against all this. Greed should not be overlooked.
I think safety is best. Quick name change is probably the practical way to go.

That's a great idea, as well as your other about having a backup site. Thanks. Though I like this idea, since it's hard er to claim an acronym is proprietary, I still think that the original IMDb and Amazon could claim the acronym is theirs. IBM has done a pretty good job of protecting their three letters!. Maybe distance this board a bit more from the original by using the name Internet Media Discussion Board (since TV is discussed as much as movies)? Though this still retains the acronym, which may be the larger problem. I'm sure if Amazon wants to close this board for copyright/trademark infringement, they'll have the $ and attorneys to do so. Maybe drop the "Internet" (since that's pretty obvious) and keep Media Discussion Board/MDB? I think eventually you're going to have to change the acronym to something else, so however/whenever you do it, you need to plan for a seamless transition from this board to the new one (whenever that happens, all posts and users should automatically be transferred over to the new site). BTW, thanks for creating this. I already see a lot of friends on this site I thought I was going to lose contact with. I'm not sure I can fault IMDb for deciding to close the boards (though I wish they had made some effort to get user participation to see if it could be salvaged). But I'm really peeved at the 3 week notice. Not only is it too short (there are some IMDb friends who may not even try to logon until after the boards are closed), it's such a weird chunk of time. A few months would be nice, but if it's got to be shorter, at least close it at the end of February, not in the middle! Oh well, this board has definitely taken a bit of the sting out of their closing. Thanks again!

Something to do with Hollywood? As it is predominantly a movie site? Hollywood Hills, Tinsel Town, Silver Screen, something like that? How about 32 Mile Zone to keep ahead of the competition?
Just kidding.

"Something to do with Hollywood? As it is predominantly a movie site?"
Too narrow in scope. Films are made all over the world, in many different countries.
This website is also dedicated to much more than just films.

Definitely change the name, but keep it simple. Perhaps IIFDB: International Internet Film Discussion Boards?

I'm leaning towards IMDforums to avoid any possible issues with "imdb". I'm also considering a dedicated server and a bona fide domain name. ProBoards is nice and all, but with so many people registering here (at this rate, there will be thousands of members soon), I'm not all that comfortable with the instability of a free service (never a cost for you guys either way, of course), not to mention one that will always be on the bubble with IMDb's legal team. I'll let everyone know, and you guys can decide if you want to migrate (again, sorry), stay here, go somewhere else, or all of the above.

EDBF Entertainment Discussion Board Forum. We are on the books board and there is a sports and rpg game board. We aren't just film and tv.

I am confident that you can be very successful with less similarity to IMDb though. People who have been on IMDb boards for 5, 10, and even 15 years in some cases will readily recognize the crowd here as most of them are keeping the same board identities. People who haven't been with IMDb as long won't care much about similarity anyway. Perhaps you could use IMDforums as an interim solution. ( 'D' for 'data' ?) I see many here are concerned about losing what they had at IMDb and are not ready for a significant name change.

"If "IMD" needs to stand for anything, let's just say Internet Media Discussion."
That sounds quite reasonable.
However, when do you believe that you will decide upon whether or not to transfer this website to a different set up?
Would it be better to do it now before everyone is settled, or would it be better to wait to until you know that you have the established commitment and loyalty of your members?
