I haven't been to too many bad shows, but this year I was rather let down by Rob Zombie's tour, at least the headlining half of it. I'm not the hugest fan of Rob Zombie's music these days, but since his White Zombie albums and first few solo albums were such a big part of my youth I've always made a point to go see him when he comes to town, plus he usually puts on a pretty incredible live show. I've seen him in more intimate theater settings, I've seen him from the nosebleeds at basketball arenas and I've seen him at amphitheaters. This most recent time I saw him there was just something way off with the sound. The show started out great his the full-on nostalgia acts of Powerman 5000 and Static X, but then came the co-headliner Mudvayne and they were just awful. They had the guitars and drums mic'd up far too high, the bass (who is actually probably the member that made the band stand out in the first place) was far too low, and the singer is clearly deaf and can not hear himself at all over the feedback. The crowd had probably reached around 16,000 and he was literally only performing for the people in the front row, most of the time he was coiled up in a ball on the floor crying as he screamed these songs at the top of his lungs. It was miserable to watch and eventually I left the amphitheater to take a walk around the grounds of Blossom Music Center just wanting to get away from the noise. Rob Zombie on the other hand just felt flat that night, his larger than life horror rock songs felt hollow and his set was really unchanged from the past few times I'd seen him with all the same screens and props on stage.

The show was pretty cool overall, but I was incredibly disappointed Aerosmith didn't perform Janey's Got a Gun when I saw them.

Either Lacuna Coil or Epica, both amazing bands but ruined due to very poor audio mixing/venue. Far too loud, and you could mainly hear the bass and drums, drowning out the vocals and guitar.

I didn't think of it until now, but I guess that my most disappointing concert was when I saw country singer Trace Adkins in concert back in July of 2005, but it was due to the concert being cut short because of the bad weather that started to come during the middle of the show. Trace only wrapped things up because he was told to. He said that he was sorry. What made it even more disappointing was the fact that he was not able to come back later to that one area of east TN, which was the city of Kingsport. The city's yearly gathering named Fun Fest is what he was there for, and I guess that the people in charge of the event did not have the ability to have him or another act come another day to play for those who had come for the gathering the day that Trace was there. I can't remember if the concert was free or not. If there was a charge, it wasn't very much. Was Trace the only person there that day? No. Billy Currington was his opening act, and he was good. I did get to see Trace again later that year because he got booked to be the headliner for a gathering that used to happen every fall in the city of Maryville, TN named the Foothills Fall Festival. Trace was able to give a full performance that day and it was awesome which is how he is every time that I have seen him. Actually, out of everyone that I have seen in concert, he is the act that I have seen the most. God bless you and him and Billy Currington always!!! Holly (a day one fan of Trace)
