Out of all the insults that Smith hurled at poor Robot, I think my favorite is, "You nickel-plated nincompoop".

Several years ago, around Xmas time, Amazon.com put the first season DVD set on sale so I bought it. Up through episode #17 "The Keeper: Part 2, it's a pretty solid, if juvenile, sci-fi series. But after that the camp quotient jumps with episodes like "The Sky Pirate" and "The Space Croppers". Still the latter half of the season wasn't all bad, the finale "Follow the Leader" was excellent. However, I didn't buy any of the later seasons.
Other thoughts - Marta Kristen was a babe!

Other thoughts - Marta Kristen was a babe! She also looked great in Leave it to Beaver, and Savage Sam (sequel to Old Yeller). Loved this show, particularly in the early episodes before the camp started in, and it was still a serious Sci Fi series. My understanding is that it was losing ratings to the campy Batman series, hence the move to the camp camp I think it's kind of cool the way the cast members stayed in touch all these years, and had regular get togethers, all except Guy Williams who was living in Argentina in his final years. Even the cast members seemed to take a light hearted approach when Mad Magazine decided to roast them in “Loused up in space”, 1966.

But that was just us in an elevator. It wasn't like he was "on" or anything. Running into him he just seemed forever pissed off. I got the feeling he really did not want to be at these events. Perhaps you were too old and too female for his taste.

It's TERRIBLE.
As a 10 year old, I watched the show regularly (early 1970s, in syndication)... Then I saw my first episode of Star Trek TOS -- "The Doomsday Machine".
Lost in Space became unwatchable crap for me from that moment on.

MeTV....It's now in the middle of the worst episodes ever, (season 2, of course). Yes...many episodes were terrible, (even as a kid watching). Where I lived, you could only see Star Trek reruns one episode on Sunday morning. Lost In Space was at least 5 days a week after school. We didn't have many choices to be discriminating critics back then. I did prefer the more mature and intelligent Star Trek myself.

John Williams is unbelievable. Who could have guessed that the composer of music for "Lost in Space", "The Time Tunnel" and "Land of the Giants" would go on to become inarguably the greatest composer for the screen that ever lived. And he's still going strong. Inarguably??? Sorry, but IMO, Max Steiner, Henry Mancini, and Miklos Rozsa were FAR better.

I guess there IS room for argument. But that Johnny Williams is right up there.

MeTV, 5/21/17. Absolute low point....Season 2, "The Questing Beast". A failure on on all levels, including the comedy level it was intended for!! Such an embarrassment...can we we not destroy all copies to erase it from existance? ??

With season 2, the emphasis was definitely on Smith, Will and the Robot. Will was too "golly gee, Dr. Smith" for my tastes, and Smith was just outrageous. The robot bothered me most. Hard to believe this was the same mechanism that was so threatening in the first episode. I don't mind the "warning, warning, Will Robinson" stuff, but I really hate it when he strums a guitar or laughs at Dr. Smith. Just plain dumb. Even then, as a 12 year old, I knew it was moronic.

Now the robot's retching laugh would crack me up! As a boy, I preferred the episodes featuring John and Don because those were the guys we pretended to be when we played, (my God, playing by using imagination...what a concept)! The biggest problem for me were the stupid fairy tale plots with Vikings, Cowboys, Toymakers, Sea Captains, Pirates, etc... It was like the writers went on a season long drinking binge and said screw it! There were still some awful goofy shows in season 3, but not as many as S2.

The Cave of the Wizards...... Season 2 makes a minor comeback with this episode. On Me TV Sunday 6/25. Actually slightly SyFi. Smith becomes entranced and is "absorbed" by alien computers to become "Welcome To the Machine". Much better than the previous Pirate, Circus, Cowboy, Viking, idiotic plotlines of S2. One question. The Jupiter 2 was ready to blast off for a "launch window". Why did they have a launch window if they did not know where they were going? They don't know the way to Earth or Alpha Centauri. I will have to watch tomorrow night to see if this is explained.

Tonight, actually Sunday 3am, "Revolt of the Androids"....certainly not that great of a show, but "CRUSH, KILL, DESTROY!" became a memorable moment.

"The Colonists"...The Robinson's are invaded by Dominant Female Amazons! Well, only one actually. And of course this being Lost In Space, a kid-centered show, it is handled in the usual moronic, juvenile way so as to be in no way titillating. The Sci-fi concept of Female dominated societies has been done before, but usually in the 60's when it was just a "ridiculous" concept. If on Star Trek, it only took one kiss from macho Captain Kirk to turn these silly women around! Can't have that on Lost in Space, since the target audience, (10 year old boys), would go "Ewww"! Not a total stinker.... Personal highlights include the "instant reversal" of the landing ship. A supreme goof in the intro segment right before the opening theme and credits....A "relay station" is supposed to be destroyed by some ultra-sonic high energy transmission. You can obviously see a stage hand busting the "light bulb" with a stick. I guess cheapo budget would not allow them to reshoot and edit, or they could not afford another light bulb and handful of flash powder! Next week, my favorite season 2 episode, "Trip Through the Robot"!

In the summer of 1966 NBC started showing promos for a new show coming in September called "Star Trek"... I watched them and said to myself, "Great, all we need is another "Lost in Space'..."
I had stopped watching that because it had become so cheesy and corny. It wasn't until mid season when I had the TV on for background noise that I started noticing something seriously good was on, the episode was "Arena" and I became hooked on Star Trek.

I've recently been re-watching season 1 for the first time in many many years. The first few episodes (I've only gotten through episode 5 so far) are really quite good. It started as an interesting science fiction idea. Also, at this point it is very much a continuing story and not episodic at all. Truly a shame that it devolved into such a poorly constructed "alien of the week" cheese fest.
I think they were really trying to keep up with Batman and it just didn't work. The same thing happened to other shows like The Man From UNCLE.
