Shocking Dark (1989) aka Terminator II aka AliennatorsDespite the title (well at least one of them; Terminator II), this low-rent and hyperbolic Italian film lifts a lot of scenes (infirmary encounter), characters (Newt & Ripley clones), and dialogues (Cocooned character; “Kill me”) from another James Cameron classic; ‘Aliens’. You could play a drinking game with the amount of ideas this film quite blatantly steals. And ‘Terminator’ isn’t spared either, when it comes to its final half hour including its climax and head scratching ending. While it can be over-the-top, it’s not as fun as it should’ve been... unless you’re taking alcoholic shots throughout 😉

I watched this the other night, and I found it alright. I sort of lost interest as it went along though, despite a few laughs early on. Good to see they kept to the puppet fx and animatronics, but I wish the focus had stayed on Dee Wallace’s character instead of the teens/kids. It felt like a throwaway part for her, and that was kinda disappointing.

Re-Animator (1985) - 8/10 I really don’t know why I was missing out on this one. Kind of like a zombie movie but not in the standard, traditional fashion. This is a great cult classic with impressive SFX. But of course Jeffrey Combs as Herbert West was awesome, and this is the film that made him earn his place in the horror world. The only thing is that the ending was kind of bad; not a very satisfying conclusion. But leading up to that, it’s very fun. Reanimator is a reimagining of Frankenstein and is very well done. Other than a corpse being reanimated how is it a re imagining of Frankenstein? It's very loosely based on Lovecraft's short story Herbert West-Reanimator which was a parody of Frankenstein so perhaps that's what you meant.

Other than a corpse being reanimated... That's a pretty important part of reimagining Frankenstein. Sure, if you ignore all the stuff similar to Frankenstein, I concede it's nothing like Frankenstein. Are you suggesting a parody is not a reimagining? Because that seems like reaching for an argument. In any case, it's been years since I've seen Re-Animator and I don't remember enough details to argue minutiae.

So Night of the Living Dead is a re imagining of Frankenstein? Every zombie movie is, right? Also every vampire movie? Yep Dracula is a re imagining of Frankenstein. Gosh how did I miss that? It's so obvious. Brilliant insight there bro. I never would have guessed it's been years since you saw Re-Animator. All joking aside, you know what actually is a re imagining of Frankenstein? Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Have you seen it? It's damned entertaining.

Rituals (1977) Terrifying, low budget backwoods chiller from Canada. Grim, gritty, and intense. One chilling sequence after another; the image of the killer standing on the horizon is especially unsettling. Hagood Hardy's eerie music score is also a major asset. Rituals also happens to be an allegory for war, dealing with the horrors of war and trying to survive it.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) I really dislike this reboot of Dawn Of The Dead deb. I bought a copy earlier on in the year to re-vist and to see if my mind would change about it, because there is a lot of love for the film, but I still didn't like it. I got rid of it, just a quick as I bought it.
It really doesn't work in well with me and there is something perfunctory and if you would pardon the pun, dead about it.
Oh. Sorry to hear you were not a fan of it Toasted Cheese. I personally like both the original and the remake but I enjoy the original the most especially the expanded version. As far as remakes go I didn't think it was bad though and was one of the few I enjoyed and I liked it a lot more than the remake of 'Day of the Dead' which really paled in comparison to the original. I am curious if you have seen the 'Night of the Living Dead' remake with Tony Todd 'cause I really liked that movie and thought it was even better than the original but that is just me.

Yeah. I thought it was alright movie too and was actually a lot better than we were expecting it to be but it did have its share of problems and I would have liked to have seen more focus on Dee Wallace's character instead of the teens too 'cause when we finally found out she was a bounty hunter the movie was almost over and we didn't learn much about her character. The way it ended was kinda odd 'cause it just ended without really wrapping things up and we thought it would have gone on a little longer but I would like to see a sequel and that would give the writers a chance to focus more on Dee's character and the good Crite. I think they should get Charlie or Brad back for it though especially Charlie even if it is only for 2 minutes to kill him off or something 'cause he was such a big part of the franchise and it would also be fun to see a grownup Brad teaming up with Dee's character since she played his Mum in the first movie.

Just finished House, haven't seen it in decades. It starts slow but has aged well. In 86 the idea of a hot neighbor dumping their kid on you seemed amusing but now it seems very unamusing, probably because I've raised kids since last seeing this.

I was in the mood the other night for some H.P. Lovecraft and so watched this film based on H.P's story, At the Mountains of Madness: Black Mountain SideThe current imdb rating of 5.2 reflects my estimation of the film, it isn't great but it isn't bad either. The thing I feel about H.P. Lovecraft is that he's a difficult author to translate to the big screen because nothing can match one's own imagination of his bleakness, and films from this author tend to be anti-climatic, such as the aforementioned film. But it does have a great scene with a Deer God: Another film I watched though did convey that Lovecraftian bleakness even though not based on any story: The Borderlands (a.k.a Final Prayer)I rate this more 8.5 rather than imdb's current rating of 5.7. Don't be put off by the found footage genre because the acting and story are top notch with one of the bleakest endings I've seen in a horror film.

The Thaw.
About a artic research station that due to global warming finds a preserved Wooly mammoth that is infected with dormant (and now thanks to global warming) alive parasites that seek out new hosts to lay their eggs in.
Pretty bad. Cliche characters who do exactly what you think they are going to do. Val Kilmer is in it so I should have known.
