I so agree here Dramatic Look Gopher and watch this one around
the same time in this season also .
It seems no matter how old this film is
it still holds up very well
after all these years
and it gets better with age
every time I watch it too .
A definite awesome classic horror film indeed . Like the best quality wine, Black Christmas does indeed improve with age. None of the newer millennial horror movies could ever hold a candle to this classic.
I actually have never watched the remakes of this fine original film .
However I did see a commercial for the most recent newer one
and it appeared to not impress me to even want to view it
especially knowing how well the original holds up
after all these years too .
IMPO - A quality film such as this one just cannot be duplicated
it's definitely a " one of a kind classic gem " .

Contamination .7 aka The Crawlers aka The Creepers aka Troll 3 (1993)
Wherein most of the actors seem to be taking their cues from Ryan O'Neal and his flat "Oh, man, oh, God" line reading from Tough Guys Don't Dance.

I watched the Tales From the Crypt episode "And All Through the House." I know, it's not a movie but who cares. Been wanting to see this for 30 years. Anyway, how does it compare to the 1972 version with Joan Collins? Not good I'm afraid. Larry Drake is impressively creepy-looking and Mary Ellen Trainor is convincing as the homicidal wife--but the trouble is, she is TOO convincing. She is able to knock the mad Santa unconscious. In the original, the Santa maniac is a big fucking dude and looks like a mental case. The surprise ending just works much better. They go for comedy in this--too much to be scary the way I like it.

A solid remake by Tom Savini with a few a plot changes here and there. The practical effects still hold up strong.

Mrs. Claus (2018) Mrs. Claus has murder on her mind this Christmas, and she's out to get whoever is naughty or nice! Very low budget with some questionable acting, but it delivers the goods. If you're a fan of gore and throat slittings, then this is the holiday movie for you!

Don't think I've ever seen that before. I definitely stand behind the NOTLD remake. I liked the twists on the familiar plot, especially the choice to make Barbra more than a catatonic liability. Not a perfect film by any stretch, but a lot to chew on with the great cast and superb special effects work.

Maybe it's the seasonal depression, but I like this even less than the last time I watched it (memory tells me it was 2011 last time I gave it a look). The emotional beats from Arnold come midway through the film and are too little too late to save the hokey acting, contrived plot points (1999 upside down is 666, the year of the devil!) and the obnoxious score and tacky special effects. Not much to write home about, I'm afraid. Pretty formulaic Satan-looking-for-a-bride story. I much preferred my first-time viewing of To The Devil a Daughter this weekend. 4/10

Monster Hunter, aka Dark Is The Night
Decent film for what it is. High on suspense and tone, low on action. Lots of half-glimpsed shots of the creature, but they do unzip their fly and give you a decent look at it in the end. It's... okay. Suffers a bit from budget-limited CGI. All in all it was worth watching, but nothing special.

A nostalgic favorite I feel compelled to revisit this time of year (originally saw it in theaters on Xmas day '98). Though I always enjoy its quick pace, lean plot and stacked cast, I have to recognize that the story feels a lot like a copy & paste script from Kevin Williamson, like he spruced up an unused Scream sequel script and punched in a bunch of Body Snatchers and Thing type things. Even still, a butt ton of fun. Also of note: I watched the Blu-ray for the first time since upgrading and couldn't help but notice Mary Beth's nipples appear to be sanded off digitally. Creepier than anything that actually happens in the movie! 7/10

Had day off today so just watched two. Anna and the Apocalypse which is more musical and comedy than horror but was an ok watch. Don't think I would watch it again though.
I also just watched for the second time Bait (2012). This was another ok flick that bad shark CGI. Not sure why I watched this one again as I realized after I started watching it the second time that I wasn't that thrilled with it the first.

I remember when I first saw it; I didn’t care for the new character/story arcs. However that changed... and I really liked the last third of the film. There was such an unnerving and disturbed air, especially the target practice scene of zombies hanging from a tree. The whole camp scene was projecting ‘The Walking Dead’ vibes. The cast do a good job too, especially the intensity between Todd and Towles. Although as a whole I still think the film feels like it’s missing something?

Ghosthouse 1988
Loony Italian haunted house horror. Can be a little on the dull side by being saddled with lacklustre performances (although the character Pepe adds some unwanted life). Still when it goes for shocks, it delivers some ridiculously fun scenes. Nice final shot too.
