Thanks for posting. I remember those schedules well, They,--the thee major TV networks stations were similar, in many cases near identical--for many cities but for the local shows that were occasionally shoe-horned in. That's a whole lotta television. I find it fascinating to see how many short shows there were,--15 minute soaps, even shorter news shows, many half-hour dramatic series, most of them westerns, but still. For some reason some shows stand out in my memory much more than others: I remember the long afternoon runs of Loretta Young and The Millionaire, which seemed like they ran forever, and would be in those same time slots, give or take a half-hour, fifty years down the road. There was something reassuring about television back then. The networks and local TV stations saw to that. It made one feel secure, sure of how the world was ordered, what show would be on when; and what was appropriate viewing for certain times of day. That's all gone now. Nowadays television feels almost as chaotic as the real world!

I'm guessing I was watching She Demons on channel 11, unless I was doing homework (unlikely).

A week's schedule for GLV-10 in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. This was the only station in the area (a second station opened in 1963), but it includes a nice mix of top American imports, high-grade Melbourne/Sydney productions, classic feature films, and simple but well-meaning self-produced local shows. Honestly, they did pretty well for a regional station in an area without much population. very interesting. I was devoted to dr Who, would certainly have watched that, though November 1966 i was still traumatised by the loss of william hartnell. I was also keen on batman, but have no memory of it being on that late because i'm sure I always watched it, and I certainly wouldn't have been able to if it clashed with Dixon of Dock Green, we always watched that. It must have been on on a weekday on children's tv as well. or perhaps they'd moved it to saturday evenings instead of a weekday, in which case i would never have got to see it, because it wouldn't have stood a chance against dIxon of Dock gReen.

Chicago TV schedule for Friday 2 December 1966. Sadly, the game shows and soap operas on the schedule are mostly lost, and some of the kiddie shows are lost or partially lost too. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the educational shows are lost too. All four networks are represented...yes, four! NET (National Educational Television) was around, and while most of their programming consists of dull educational series, there's also an excellent TV play, "An Enemy of the People", which I've seen via a DVD release. Strictly speaking, WXXW (Channel 20) is a defunct station, going off the air in the 1974. The current Channel 20, WYCC, debuted in 1983. Tucson, Arizona TV schedule for Wednesday 5 February 1964. Source is the Arizona Daily Star edition for that day. I believe this is the first time I've posted a TV schedule from the southern US. Many cities in the south lacked an ABC affiliate, so Tucson was lucky to not only have an ABC affiliate, but a NET affiliate as well. They were also lucky to have all four networks on VHF. There is a varied range of programs on the schedule: comedies, dramas, soaps, game shows, a TV movie, variety/music, animation, educational shows, documentaries, heck there's even a proto-reality show on the schedule, and a little bit of local programming. Note: During daytime various 5-minute news updates were broadcast. These are not listed in the newspaper I used as a source, but I know they aired following shows like "Love of Life" and "Match Game". That's why "Match Game" episodes of the 1960s are so damn short, because the final 5 minutes consisted of one of these news dates. Unfortunately, many of the game shows, local shows, soap operas and newscasts on the schedule are lost. For example, the 1960s version of "Match Game" (with very different rules to the well-preserved 1970s version) aired for hundreds of episodes, of which less than 20 survive. It would not surprise me if some of the educational telecasts are lost too. Thursday 11 February 1965 schedule for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All four networks are represented (NBC, CBS, ABC, NET), but sadly no independent stations. Fortunately though, all of them are on VHF. That's good because UHF stations rarely got viewers (I heard of one UHF station during the 50s/60s, I forget which, where a host offered money to the first person who called in. Nobody called in, meaning NOBODY was watching!!). It's a fun schedule, mostly fluff, but it's highly enjoyable fluff. Any schedule with "Bewitched" is a great schedule if you ask me. Unfortunately, many of the daytime shows on the schedule are lost. I notice that many of NET's shows aren't on IMDb. Someone should correct this. Amazing how long lived some of these series were, in fact a few of them are still running today. Tuesday 7 January 1969 TV schedule for Orlando, Florida. Includes some genres which are extinct these days, including a western anthology series ("Death Valley Days"), perhaps the most extinct genre possible. Some of these shows are still in production, such as "Days of Our Lives" and "60 Minutes". Unfortunately, most of the daytime and late-night shows are largely lost. One, "Snap Judgement", has no survival episodes at all. Friday 15 December 1967 TV schedule for New York City. Not mentioned in the schedule: The 5-minute news updates that aired throughout the day. That's why old kinescopes and tapes of the daytime version of "To Tell the Truth" are so short, because it was aired in a 25-minute slot (of course, surviving daytime episodes of that show are as rare as hen's teeth...Goodson-Todman were constantly re-using those tapes! Fortunately the prime-time episodes have a better survival rate) The schedules by this point were starting to get more modern, particularly that of NET (predecessor of PBS). NET by this point was increasingly PBS-like: Their schedule for the day includes a British show, a TV play, and even "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" (IMDb says the series debuted 1968. While this is true nationally, the series was already airing on a regional basis in a number of cities starting in 1966). As with all of the 1960s schedules, many daytime shows are largely lost. That includes "Winchell-Mahoney Time", for which the host managed to successfully sue the production company for erasing the tapes. Monday 15 November 1965 TV schedule for Sydney, Australia. Normally, I choose a schedule because it includes a show I like, or because it includes a show I want to see. In this case, I chose this schedule because it features two series that were notorious at the time but are now long forgotten. Both "TV Bingo" and "Seven's Bigger Bingo" were controversial because they were blamed for causing a decline in takings at charity bingo games, and additionally it was felt that they violated gambling laws. Within a few days of this schedule, both shows were taken off the air. The schedule is heavily dominated by American shows. There's also some British series, a Canadian series, and not much Australian content. This 1965 schedule actually has a lot less prime-time Australian content than many 1957 schedules! Which is worrying.... Sydney had four stations to choose from. Adelaide, Australia TV schedule for Wednesday 19 July 1961. This is the first time I've posted an Adelaide schedule. There were three stations to choose from, two commercial and one non-commercial (ABS-2). Mostly U.S. series, but there are also locally-made series like "Adelaide Tonight" (a long-running variety show) as well as shows from other parts of Australia like "Swallow's Juniors".
