No, theists can still try to survive & pray to survive. Only when they are captured & given the ultimatum of denying their faith & living, or openly confessing your faith in the face of death, determines if one is truly theist or atheist. I never understood this logic. Why not, if it was the only thing to save your life and maybe that of others, just dissemble? You know you do not speak the truth under such conditions and so would God. The only people being being lied to are the wicked. At times during the period of religious wars in Europe historians have long realised that hypocrisy and dissimulation became not only ways of shielding oneself from real or potential persecution, but also a tool for social climbing. - Also, "if one is truly theist" is a Scotsman. I suspect one faced with a no choice can indeed lie through one’s teeth in order to survive, but not without second thoughts and maybe inner shattering. Gamblers have their gods, don’t they ? Shakespeare wrote something about being faithfull to oneself.

As I said already, if both one and one's omniscient God know the dissembling entailed, then why not just lie to the wicked to survive? Hermes is the Greek god of gambling; Caishen the Chinese God of Luck and Prosperity, Fortuna the Roman equivalent, the Hindus Lakshmi and so on. As usual there are plenty of deities to go around for all to pick and choose and waste credulity on. "To thine own self be true" is from Hamlet. In the case of misleading the wicked while secretly preserving one's real beliefs that would be doing exactly that.

You do realize that, as with most of your YouTube dreck, this one has been disproven, correct? Not that I suspect the truth or untruth of it really matters to you. It supports what you like to think, and that's all that matters.

Disproven by whom? The dead man after he died?

No, although I suspect you'd be credulous enough to buy a story like that. Especially if it were a YouTube vid. But if the nice Jesus people say that the LaVey urban legend is true, then you go right ahead and believe what makes your little heart happy .

I look to far more than just this story, I bother to read the stories of the people commenting on the video.
Now probably your first response is probably to say they're all lying. Fair enough, after all atheists say God doesn't exist, they could all be lying too, couldn't they?

If you bothered to read your way through that deluge of dreck, I'd say it's time you took up a new hobby 'cause that one sure isn't doing your grey matter any favors.

There are many here on this board that can't tell the difference between a verifiable fact and an urban legend. Sad.
