Baltimore, Maryland television schedule for Wednesday 8 February 1950. This schedule features three stations, and has shows from all four networks: NBC, CBS, ABC and DuMont. Little survives of this schedule today, sadly. Programs like "Arthur Godfrey and His Friends", "Douglas Edwards with the News", "Lucky Pup", and others are mostly lost. Only a single episode survives of "Easy Aces" (a far larger number of episodes survive of the radio show it was based on). Some shows on the schedule are completely lost. Sydney, Australia television schedule for Friday 6 December 1957. A mix of American, British and Australian shows. Unfortunately, the Australian-made shows on the schedule are mostly lost. However, many episodes survive of the comedy game show "The Pressure Pak Show". Only half an episode survives of "Sydney Tonight", only a single episode survives of "This I Believe", and only a handful of episodes survive of "Your Home". Meanwhile, nothing survives of "TV Talent Scout", "Town Talk", "Give Us This Day" and "Captain Fortune". It is unknown whether anything survives of "Find the Link" and "Pantomime Quiz" (both shows were regularly recorded onto film via kinescope, which increases the possibility they might survive). Only a fragment remains of "Desmond and the Channel Ninepins", and it isn't representative. I have no idea whether the live TV special with comedian George Wallace was kinescoped (he was a popular Australian actor during the 1930s) ABN-2 3:30PM - Life with Elizabeth4:00PM - Kindergarten Playtime 4:15PM - sign off 5:00PM - Children's TV Club 5:35PM - sign off 7:00PM - News, Weather 7:20PM - People 7:45PM - Ballet de France 8:00PM - Your Favorite Story8:30PM - Armand Denis 9:00PM - Find the Link9:30PM - Report from America 10:00PM - Meet Robin Boyd 10:10PM - sign off ATN-7 4:00PM - Pantomime Quiz4:30PM - Your Home5:00PM - Captain Fortune (IMDb wrongly states this began 1959. New York City television schedule for Sunday 1 January 1950. Yes, the first NYC schedule of the 1950s! Source: Brooklyn Eagle newspaper. Hmm....the schedule includes opera, variety, anthology, news, discussion, comedy, crime drama, religion, films, and infomercials. Seems like a varied range of programming to me! It's a shame so much of this schedule is lost. Cincinnati, Ohio television schedule for Tuesday 6 February 1951. Note: I was very dizzy as I copied the information from newspaper to notepad document, and also dizzy as I prepared the IMDb links. I hope I didn't make any mistakes. I'm been feeling terribly sick all day. Note: There's three stations, but five networks represented. Yes, five: NBC, CBS, DuMont, ABC, and the long-forgotten Paramount Television Network. If you haven't heard of the Paramount Television Network, it was a pathetic failure that makes DuMont look successful by comparison. Yes, that disastrous. Glasgow, Scotland television schedule for Tuesday 27 January 1959. Two stations to choose from, the BBC of course and commercial station STV (part of ITV). I've seen two series on the schedule, "Emergency Ward-10" which was a good soap opera sadly largely lost, and the documentary series "Eye on Research" which seems like a good show based on the episode I've seen. Kansas City, Missouri television schedule for Tuesday 5 January 1954. Sad news: KCTY ceased operations in February 1954. A DuMont affiliate (and briefly owned by the network), it suffered from being a UHF station at a time when most TV sets couldn't pick up UHF stations. Note: I was worn out when I copied the information from an old newspaper and did the IMDb links. I hope I didn't make any mistakes. The newspaper used some short-hand, which didn't help. .....yes, "Captain Video", though originally a 30-minute show, had become a 15-minute show by this point. WDAF-TV, Channel 4 7:00AM - Today9:00AM - Ding Dong School (refreshingly simple based on two episodes I've seen) 9:30AM - Glamour Girl 10:00AM - Hawkins Falls (nice show based on surviving episodes) 10:15AM - Three Steps to Heaven10:30AM - The Bennetts10:45AM - Follow Your Heart11:00AM - Bride and Groom (mid-century reality TV....not bad actually) 11:15AM - Cinema 1:00PM - News 1:15PM - Action in Arctic 1:30PM - Kitchen Klub 2:00PM - The Kate Smith Hour (few episodes survive. Melbourne, Australia television schedule for Saturday 30 March 1957. I may be alone on this, but I think this is a good line-up. One of the shows on the schedule was "Wedding Day", in which a couple would get married and win some prizes. This modest show was the first TV production of Crawford Productions, who later became the most important producer of Australian television programming during the 1960s. From small acorns, I guess..... I see Australian TV's love of sports shows was already there in 1957.... Ottawa, Canada television schedule for Tuesday 24 November 1953. A good schedule. It has variety, it has news, it has an anthology series, and it has Garry Moore. What more could you want? Ottawa, Canada television schedule for Wednesday 25 November 1953. WHY did so many stations decide to show the by-all-accounts-terrible series "Ramar of the Jungle"? It got shown all over the U.S., in Australia and in Canada. WHY? Sydney, Australia television schedule for Monday 4 February 1957. What is it with 1950s TV viewers and world war two? It seems like the schedules were jam-packed with war-themed TV series. There's local produced shows on the schedule like "Your Home", "Captain Fortune", "At Seven on 7", "This I Believe", "Sydney Tonight", "Give Us this Day", and "Fun Farm". Simple shows admittedly, but that's not always a bad thing....I've seen a lengthy fragment from an episode of "Sydney Tonight", and found it entertaining. P.S. a 1958 episode of "This I Believe", a news talk show, was recently digitised by the National Film and Sound Archive. It's complete with the original commercial for the Vauxhall Victor. Unless I'm mistaken, it is the earliest surviving recording of an Australian news program. The episode features a discussion of Charles De Gaulle's rise to power.
