The #metoo comment made me think about Louis CK. To date he's one of the most surprising entries in the list. I could have sworn the people who did what Louis CK did are the type of people Louis CK would expertly roast in one of his shows.
I never knew much about Cosby. His show was just slightly before my time. Never even seen an episode. The most I've heard about him really comes from Dave Chappelle, who I would also argue is mostly expired from pop culture but that's another matter. Chappelle has even worked and appeared since, but he doesn't feel on to me.
Lizzo also feels expired compared to a year or two ago.

I was never a huge fan of the Cosby show, but you're dead wrong about its popularity. The show was enormously popular. "It launched the extended cast into stardom" Oh yeah, Lisa Bonet and Malcolm Jamal Warner
they had such big careers didn't they?
It's total BS-the media SAID the Cosby show was popular--not the same as reality.
The fact that the Cosby Show aired first meant that they were counting on people sticking around for the other shows instead of leaving after Cosby. That is because shows like Cheers and Night Court had their own devoted audiences.
Interesting reading this little flame war between you two. I must say, Prime, I have NEVER seen an example of people watching a 30-minute show they don’t like in order to watch three shows that they did. If the audience was more interested in the shows that came after it, then why weren’t those shows ratings higher than Cosby’s? Why are you singling out Bonét and Jamal-Warner? Incidentally, Jamal-Warner just finished a five-season run on the Fox series “The Resident”. Some of the other Cosby Kids work: Keshia Knight Pulliam has been a regular on the Tyler Perry series “House of Payne” since 2007. Raven-Symoné has the show “Raven’s House” on the Disney Channel. As someone previously stated, “The Cosby Show” was at the top of the Nielsens’ list for five consecutive seasons. The shows that followed, while posting good numbers, never really surpassed it. And if we’re gonna nitpick about floundering careers, we could argue that Justine Bateman and Brian Bonsall didn’t exactly ser any screens on fire after “Family Ties” either.

Yeah and Tina Yothers too--but Michael J Fox did have a massive career, and Courtney Cox also. And Geena Davis who had a recurring role on it. There is no comparison with the Cosby kids. None of them have had any kind of similar fame--and they were supposedly in the show that everyone loved. What are the top ten favorite episodes of the series that everyone remembers?
Just think about it--Brandon Tartikoff and Leslie Nielsen are saying that the Cosby Show was loved by everyone--a massive massive popular show. Water cooler popular so they say. But was it? I don't think so. It was part of the black cultural promotion that gathered momentum. Who even remembers Webster or Benson these days?
I remember What's Happening? I watched that show--I remember the characters--Rerun etc. I remember the lettuce religion episode. I don't remember any Cosby episodes other than the one where his daughter's boyfriend was singing to himself while Cosby observes.

Leslie Nielsen?! Are talking about the Nielsen ratings? Leslie had nothing to do with those. Anyway, 10 memorable “Cosby Show” moments: 1. From the pilot where Cliff has the discussion with Theo where Theo pleads that his dad can love him for being a regular kid. To which Cliff responds “That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard!”, then levels the threat “I’m your father. I brought you in this world, I’ll take you out!” 2. Cliff’s parents’ anniversary where Cliff and the kids lip-sync and pantomime to the Ray Charles song “The Night Time is the Right Time”. 3. The following year where the family “performs” to James Brown’s “I’ve Got the Feeling”. 4. Rudy and her friend Peter visit the dentist (played by comedy legend Danny Kaye). 5. Rudy has a slumber party (one of the girls is played by a 4-year-old Alicia Keys). 6. Vanessa and Denise have a catfight over Denise’s sweater. 7. The first time we meet Sandra’s boyfriend Elvin and he’s put on the spot by Claire. 8. When Denise finally makes her decision about what college she wants to attend. 9. Claire and some of her old college classmates reminisce about some of their civil rights protests. 10. Theo’s college graduation. Maybe no one really remembers “Webster”, but I know people who were big “Benson” fans (not me, a little too mean-spirited for my liking). Reruns currently air on Antenna TV. Episode I remember from that show is Benson playing Trivial Pursuit against The Grim Reaper (played by William Marshall of Blacula fame) for Benson’s soul.

Is this thread un-expiring The Cosby Show? lols
I always thought the grandparents stuff was cringe, & they became more visible in the latter years I think. No one seems to miss the show not being on reruns anywhere. It had its NBC run, it had its rerun run, & now barely anyone mentions the show good or bad... it's expired imo.

But I remember Judge Stone's father

Yep. I think if you told an 11yr old that show was a pop culture machine, they'd want new parents.

The thing about (Leslie) Nielsen ratings is that it was a box that tracked what was on the tv and or the families in the thing had to write in a diary. So how reliable really was it? My understanding was that it wasn't reliable at all since people would leave the tv on and could have been doing something else entirely.
Take Survivor though. They came along after the writer's strike where scripted shows suddenly vanished and they were promoting this reality tv like crazy. But who cares about now? Did the players end up doing anything?
The Kardashians are a media-created thing--no one in the public said in 1994---hey..Oj's lawyer--that Kardashian guy--please media companies--devote lots of air time to what his kids are doing. Please.
I remember the first time Kim appeared--she was hanging out with Paris Hilton (another merit-absent celebrity). Then she did a porn video--(was it a multicultural thing?) and then voila--she is a star. But did the public really care?
There's a difference between media popularity and public popularity.

Lizzo possibly feels expired because the media's pushing of Ozempic and other weight-loss drugs is making the "Beauty at Any Size" philosophy obsolete.

I thought she disappeared after those allegations came out that she abused her employees. I don't recall if she ever refuted them beyond threatening to quit music due to lies. I wish that were more convincing cause she feels cancelled more than irrelevant to me.

John Hughes was another media creation.
His career died due to him pissing off a studio--he was sort of blacklisted, but considering how much attention he got --in advertising "A John Hughes film" he dropped off the radar fast.

How about American Pie and its cast? Remember a time when that movie was a cultural phenomenon and nearly everyone in it had about four years of mainstream leading roles? This will probably piss off Prime, but I love that the most successful person as of now was a borderline extra and one of like two minorities in the entire movie, John Cho.

I disliked every one of them equally from the get go. It was interesting watching a discussion about how modern audiences would never warm to them because they can't take a joke and they're too soft and whatever other cancel-culture excuses there are, but I was about the age of the main characters when it came out and I couldn't warm to any of them or want them to succeed. Honestly I just think nobody looks at these guys and thinks they're cool, and that's what caught up with the franchise.

To your point, the most popular character became the antagonist who bullies the rest of them. I did like Seann William Scott, and wonder what his career might look like if Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds didn't exist.

It's sort of semi not the fault of the movies. I don't like high school and colleges onscreen most of the time. I don't have the natural instincts for frat culture and hazing and boys on the prowl like they were. They were all the type of people I'd avoid if we went to the same school. It reflects on me as much as them. I like Chris Evans though, and I didn't care a whole lot for Ryan Reynolds at first, but he has an open invitation to dinner at my house now because of the Deadpools.
