While I think that other major villains like Angelus and Dark Willow are better, I have a particular fondness for the Master.

The only one I didn't care for was Adam. I found him rather silly. I loved Angelus and the Mayor. I also liked Glory. I have to give it to Angelus, however. Angel was boring, but Angelus? Wow. What a villain.

Angel was never boring. He was more interesting than Angelus in the sense that Angel is a far deeper, more multifaceted and developed character who is an endless source of plot with his own worst nemesis built in, while Angelus is the sort of character better in small doses. But... Angelus is still the greatest villain in the Jossverse, followed closely by Wolfram & Hart.

SO and I have had to put this one to rest for the sake of relationship (he loves Angel). Though I do have to clarify that even a boring character in the Jossverse is ten times more interesting than most fictional characters out there. I found Angel to be a little too broody for my taste. I prefer Angelus.

I agree that Angelus was one of the nastiest villains. I think he was also the most ‘personal’ for Buffy, and that personal connection with her combined with how intimate they’d been at the end of ‘Surprise’ meant that Angelus could hurt her in ways no other villain could. He had somewhat less impact with each subsequent appearance (firstly in Season 3 of BtVS, then in Seasons 1 and 4 of AtS), but I think he still remains the show’s ‘best’ villain.
My ‘favourite’ villain, though, would probably be Glory. It was just so refreshing to see a female Big Bad and another woman who could not only go toe-to-toe with Buffy, but so thoroughly kick her butt (that was until they progressively weakened Glory throughout Season 5 and quite considerably in the season final). She was snarky, with many lines that amused me, and Clare Kramer was gorgeous in the role/wore red like nobody else.

Of the list, Glory. Also, unsouled Spike.

Of the list, Glory. Also, unsouled Spike. I strongly disagree, as seasons progressed Spike became a whiny little bitch.

The Mayor entertained me no end. He was wicked and at times a bit scary yet utterly likeable at the same time and you could tell from the way he spoke about his late wife and treated Faith that he wasn't totally evil. He had some goodness in him despite the villainy. A truly layered Big Bad fantastically realised by Harry Groener.

I agree. If we could've picked three villains, I would've made The Mayor my third favourite. I thought he was an effective villain because of how he could be all "Well, gosh.", fretting about germs and disapproving of swearing/bad behaviour one second, then let loose and be vicious/horrible the next. The fact that these outbursts were unexpected made them all the more powerful, I thought, and his relationship with Faith was what made him one of the best villains the show had, imho.
"Did everybody else know the Slayer was a robot?" - Apparently that line was one of Clare Kramer's favourites. She was such a lovely person to meet when she was here in Australia.

Why isn't Faith on the list in the Poll ? She was definitely a BIG Bad in Season 3 (before she turned good again on "ANGEL" and in Season 7 of "BUFFY") as well.

I loved Season 6's twist to make Dark Willow the Big Bad I actually thought that they were setting Willow up to be the Big Bad of S7. Which might have been interesting.... No, she was a "little bad", just like Spike and Mr. Trick and Maggie Walsh and the Trio. Although I adore Faith, I agree that she was a "little bad" (to use your phrase).

I like the IDEA of The First as a Big Bad more than the execution of the idea. Same goes for Glory to a lesser extent.
A god and Pure Evil...the thing that created evil...or something.

A god and Pure Evil...the thing that created evil...or something. Okay, I get that. I do like however the twists and turns the series took. Like the first half of S2 making us believe Spike would be the Big Bad and then him being a little bitch and Angelus stepping up, or as I mentioned S6 with the twist that at least i didn't see coming. Although Glory, The First and The Master, having beeing the Big Bad from the beginning was nice as well.

I was just thinking of that quote earlier! I love that line and the way it's delivered. I also thought it was pretty funny to see her emerge as The Beast for the first time.
PS: @chalice_Of_Evil ~ I used one of your thread topics (from the original IMDb site) on thegotboard. I gave you credit, of course. I really hope you don't mind. If there's a problem, please just let me know. (The weather must be changing because my head is bugging me today. I'll PM as soon as I can.)
Here's the link ( thegotboard.com/thread/496/worst-movie-watched ) and basically what I wrote stole:

I'm sorry, I meant to include more: I thought they were setting up DarkWillow to be the Big Bad in S7. That could've been interesting, IMHO. Sorry for the confusion. I think it's time for the second dose of my migraine meds....

In my bi-yearly re-watch of the whole series I laughed my ass off on that scene. As for Dark Willow I'm glad they didn't leave her for S7, and I was honestly rooting for her to win, is that bad?
